Chapter 698
by 夏至三候Chapter 698
My Savior
"Sis," Lu Yuan was on the verge of tears, lamenting, "You're the best. My big brother has you, and Lu Ming has Su Jin, but I'm the one in the family with the hardest time getting married. Mom and Dad have nagged me so much my ears are about to fall off. If you help me, it'll be like saving my life—they'll listen to *you*."
"Even if they do listen, it'll only be for a little while. If you still don’t get married, the pressure will keep coming," Lin Nannan reminded her.
"I know. If it really doesn’t work out, I’ll ask my big brother to set me up with someone. I think someone like him would be pretty good," Lu Yuan said enthusiastically.
Lin Nannan chuckled lightly, "Alright, I’ll mention it to your big brother and see if there’s anyone suitable."
"Haha, then I’ll tell Mr. Hu not to introduce anyone to me anymore." It was really stressing her out.
Knowing she didn’t want to meet those people, Lin Nannan didn't call her out on it and went along with her wishes.
Lu Yuan held the receiver tightly, unwilling to let go. She talked about herself, asked about Du Du, and expressed concern for the family—she just kept chattering nonstop. It wasn’t until Mr. Hu was on the other line, urging her to hurry up, that Lu Yuan reluctantly said goodbye.
"Sis, wait for me, alright? Once I have time, I’ll definitely come see you," she said.
"Alright. I’ll probably be staying here for quite a while, so there’s no rush. If there are any changes, I’ll let you know. I definitely won’t disappear for years like before."
"That’s good. I was really afraid you’d vanish for another few years!" Hearing this, Lu Yuan felt reassured.
The two chatted a bit more before Lu Yuan reluctantly hung up.
After putting down the receiver, Lin Nannan initially intended to leave. But as she turned, she remembered Lu Ming and Su Jin, whom she had overlooked, so she turned back and dialed a number she had memorized earlier.
"Hello, this is Lu Ming. Who’s calling?" The voice on the other end had clearly changed a lot compared to two years ago, sounding much more steady.
"Guess who?" Lin Nannan felt playful and teased.
Lu Ming paused for a moment, then seemed to realize something and cautiously asked, "Sis?"
"Not bad! After more than two years apart, you can still recognize my voice!" Lin Nannan laughed.
Suddenly, a clatter of sounds came through—clearly something had fallen to the ground—followed by the loud crash of a chair tipping over. Lin Nannan was startled and quickly asked, "A Ming, what’s wrong? Are you okay?"
"I… I’m fine," Lu Ming said hurriedly, looking at the mess he’d made in his excitement. "I was just too excited and couldn’t believe it. I knocked over the chair."
Lin Nannan said with a face full of exasperation, "I was just thinking how much more mature you sounded after more than two years apart, but you couldn’t even keep it up for a minute!"
"Maturity is for show with others. No need to pretend around family." Lu Ming quipped, then remembered how long his sister-in-law had been missing and quickly asked, "Sis, where are you now? Have you returned home? Does my big brother know you’re back?"
The concern in his voice made Lin Nannan subconsciously touch the bridge of her nose, a twinge of guilt hitting her.
They were on her mind, but it just slipped her mind with everything going on.
It was mainly because she didn’t have a phone nearby. If she had, she would’ve managed to call a few times to check in when she thought of them…
"I haven’t returned home. I’m with your big brother," Lin Nannan paused before adding, "Your uncle and aunt are here too."
As for the rest, she didn’t dare say more, afraid that he might want to strangle her once he found out…
Lu Ming was no fool. He immediately caught the key point and asked curiously, "Sis, how long have you been back?"
