Chapter 335
by 夏至三候Chapter 335
The Setback
She was so engrossed in the game that she completely forgot about her husband.
Lin Nannan rubbed her face and said, "I didn’t go into the mountains just for fun—I was hunting, and when I found them hiding, I just pointed them out."
Those who couldn’t find Lin Nannan but were easily spotted by her felt frustrated and couldn’t help but ask, "Ma’am, how on earth did you hide?"
Lin Nannan grinned. "Well... I didn’t stay in one place. By the time you searched where I was, I’d already doubled back behind you. That’s why you couldn’t find me."
Lin Nannan had outsmarted them, but failure was failure, and so everyone was punished.
As for that, Lin Nannan was no longer concerned—she was already being taken home by Lu Hang.
Oh, and she brought back every rabbit and pheasant she’d caught.
"Did I cause trouble?" Lin Nannan asked belatedly.
Lu Hang patted her head reassuringly. "Not exactly trouble, but you really demoralized them."
Their hiding skills were all about the same—even if he had been among them, he would’ve been found by Lin Nannan eventually.
He had long accepted the fact that he wasn’t as good as his wife.
Lin Nannan stuck out her tongue. "Wife Hu told me that eating all three meals in the canteen every day was creating a bad impression and might ruin your reputation. So I thought I’d go into the mountains to find some food, then just grab some meals from the canteen to get by until you came back..."
Understanding the gist of the situation, Lu Hang frowned guiltily. "I’m sorry. I didn’t take good care of you."
"Oh, stop—it’s not your fault! I didn’t even tell you I was coming!" Lin Nannan waved her hand dismissively, not seeing how any of this was his fault.
Lu Hang then remembered the most important point and asked in confusion, "Right, how did you even get back here? And without even a word?"
Lin Nannan pouted. "Yin Xu and I deciphered the fragment’s secrets. It turned out to be extremely useful, and we even made a replica. Though the replica isn’t as defensive as the original, it’s still pretty impressive." After giving a rough explanation, she sighed deeply. "But there must’ve been a leak. After we sent the item to the capital, our location was exposed. Both Yin Xu and I had to leave. To hide my tracks and protect me, I was sent here."
"You came alone?" he asked nervously.
"Of course not!" Lin Nannan explained. "Under those circumstances, even if I wanted to come alone, I couldn’t have!"
Only after learning she had been brought here under protection did Lu Hang relax.
The two chatted as they walked, but once they reached their quarters, they dropped the subject.
Such matters weren’t suitable for open discussion.
Seeing Lu Hang summon Lin Nannan back, the couple walked side by side, chatting and laughing, much to everyone’s surprise.
"Commander Lu’s wife was so standoffish when she first arrived, looking unapproachable. But now, next to him, she’s all smiles!" someone remarked in awe.
"Not just her—even Commander Lu himself is usually icy, but now, looking at his wife, he’s smiling warmly. They actually look quite a good match!"
"A good match? Just wait till Commander Lu finds out how much money his wife has spent just on food, not to mention how lazy she is. He won’t think so then!" someone shot back resentfully.
Many who were bitter about their own situations didn’t wish to see others happy either. So, most watched with amusement, some even quietly wished Lin Nannan would be foolish enough to pick a fight with Lu Hang—preferably one that would ruin his career, so their own husbands could move up the ladder.
