Chapter 247
by 夏至三候Chapter 247
Being Overprotective
"Don't talk nonsense! What are you spouting?" Zhang Xiaofeng scolded, then turned to Lu Heng and said, "The family won't say anything, but we can't stop the villagers from gossiping. Watch out for Nan Nan so no one dares to provoke her. Otherwise, if they get hit, they’ll make a scene!"
Lu Heng snorted coldly, "Then I won’t stop her—hell, I might even join in!"
Anyone who dared bully his wife in front of him and expected him to intervene was out of their damn mind.
Zhang Xiaofeng glared at him. "Don’t you know your wife’s strength? If someone really dies, even if we’re in the right, we won’t have a leg to stand on!"
"Don’t worry. If I step in, no one will die," Lu Heng said with a grin, though it was clear to everyone he was dead-ass serious.
Zhang Xiaofeng had no retort, knowing how fiercely protective he was. She huffed in exasperation, "Fine, do as you see fit. But if shit really hits the fan, you won’t be able to shield your wife anymore."
That hit where it hurts. Lu Heng replied calmly, "I know my limits."
If anyone tried to separate him from his wife, he’d go down swinging.
Little did he know that soon, it wouldn’t be a matter of choice—he would have to part with his wife, and it would be his own decision...
"What should we do with all these things?" Granny Lu quickly changed the subject upon hearing the commotion.
Lin Nannan, who had just stepped out, casually replied, "They’re all for you. Split ’em up yourselves."
"But there’s so much! We’ll never get through all this," Zhang Xiaofeng said, frowning.
"Don’t forget Aunt and the others. Send some to them too," Lin Nannan suggested, thinking of how they had been implicated because of Lu Heng.
Zhang Xiaofeng nodded quickly. "You’re right. We should send them some."
The gifts were a jumbled mess—fabrics, food, clothes, and various household items. Sorting them took ages...
"Big Sis, Big Bro, you should go to the capital more often. If every trip is like this, our family will prosper and never lack anything again," Lu Ming said dreamily, popping a milk candy into his mouth.
Lin Nannan found it amusing, but before she could respond, Lu Ming’s head was smacked. He howled, only to meet his mother’s furious glare.
"What do you take your brother and sister-in-law for? Think they’re your personal cash cows? You’re unbelievable!" Pan Xiaoping scolded angrily.
Lu Ming flinched and quickly backtracked, "I was just joking! I didn’t mean it!"
"Joking? Is this something to joke about? Your mother was right to hit you—do you think your brother and sister-in-law are beggars?" Granny Lu snapped, plainly pissed.
Granny Lu rarely got angry, so her expression made it clear she was genuinely displeased. Lu Ming hurriedly begged for forgiveness...
Watching Lu Ming try to suck up, Lin Nannan turned to Lu Heng in confusion. "He knows he’ll get hit every time he says the wrong thing. Why does he never learn?"
"No brain cells," Lu Heng stated bluntly.
"Exactly! No brain cells at all!" Lu Yuan chimed in supportively.
Just another day in the Lu household: chatting while watching Lu Ming get beaten.
"These fabrics are top-notch!" Zhang Xiaofeng exclaimed while sorting through them. She held up two pieces and gestured to Lu Yuan. "These colors are perfect for you and A Ming. We’ll save them for your wedding outfits!"
Fabrics like these were near impossible to find, even with money. They’d be a point of bragging rights for the Lu family.
At the mention of marriage, Lu Yuan immediately protested, "Hell no! I’ve got too much on my plate right now. I don’t want to get married at all."
