Chapter 539
by 夏至三候Chapter 539
Mother-Daughter Banter
Lu Dudu ignored Lin Nannan and instead draped herself over her father’s neck, burying her little face to avoid Lin Nannan’s pinching. Lin Nannan couldn't help but chuckle in amused frustration.
"You ungrateful little thing, and here I was worrying about you for nothing."
Lu Hang watched the mother and daughter engage in playful squabbling and said with a smile, "Go get washed up and changed!"
Lin Nannan wasn’t in the mood to keep playing around now, mainly because she felt uncomfortable all over. She immediately nodded and said, "I’ll leave the child to you, I’m going to wash up first!"
"Alright!" Lu Hang nodded at Zhao Zhi, then carried his daughter and followed Lin Nannan as they left.
By the time Lin Nannan had finished washing and changing clothes, the father and daughter were already tired from playing and were lying on the bed, mumbling back and forth...
Well, Du Du babbled, and Lu Hang responded. It looked quite heartwarming.
As Lin Nannan dried her hair and approached, Du Du noticed her right away. She immediately rolled over and popped up, her movements surprisingly quick, which left Lin Nannan momentarily taken aback.
"Du Du, you’re amazing!" Lin Nannan looked at her, her face full of astonishment and praise.
Du Du beamed at the compliment, her new teeth clearly visible.
Lin Nannan realized she had missed so much, especially the fact that her daughter could now sit up on her own, and her movements were much more agile than before.
"It’s only been a few days since we last saw her, but she’s sprouted up so much. She’s gotten so slim!" Lu Hang examined the child carefully, then turned to Lin Nannan.
"She’s just grown taller, that’s why she looks thinner," Lin Nannan said, stroking her daughter’s little face.
Du Du grabbed Lin Nannan’s hand and, teetering slightly, tried to stand up. Lin Nannan didn’t pay much attention, but to her surprise, Du Du used the leverage to actually stand up. Her little legs looked quite sturdy, with no sign of faltering...
"Giggle..." Perhaps because she had managed to stand up or because the view was different now, Du Du let out a happy laugh and even tried to clap her hands. But she lost her balance and, with a soft "thud," plopped back down onto her bottom.
It all happened so suddenly that neither Lin Nannan nor Lu Hang had time to react. The fallen Du Du looked completely dazed, shooting an accusatory look at Lin Nannan as if her mother had pushed her, making Lin Nannan both amused and exasperated.
"Would I really bully you like that?" Lin Nannan found it funny and couldn’t help bopping her lightly on the forehead.
"Ah!" Du Du suddenly snapped at Lin Nannan angrily, her expression so fierce it looked like she was ready for a fight. Lin Nannan and Lu Hang exchanged surprised glances.
After just a few days apart, it was as if their child had been replaced—her changes were too dramatic.
"You dare to yell at me? How bold!" Lin Nannan didn’t back down, pinching her daughter’s cheek and pretending to be fierce.
Du Du was displeased, her eyes wide and round, her face full of defiance.
"What, you want to fight me?" Lin Nannan, finding it amusing, continued to tease her.
Lu Hang stayed silent, letting the mother and daughter face off. He was curious about what Du Du would do next—whether she would continue to defy her mother or simply burst into tears...
Lin Nannan was curious too. They were both waiting for Du Du’s reaction, but unexpectedly, the little one’s decision was beyond their expectations. She sought outside help, flinging herself into Lu Hang’s arms and babbling a stream of complaints while pointing accusingly at her mother. It was clear she was tattling, but Lu Hang found it utterly endearing.
"Sweetheart, how are you so clever?" Lu Hang happily picked up the child and planted a kiss on her cheek. The startled Du Du, caught off guard by the kiss, quickly forgot why she was angry and burst into giggles.
