Chapter 443
by 夏至三候Chapter 443
Cherished from Birth
Zhang Xiaofeng picked up on the underlying meaning in Lin Nannan's words and couldn't help but laugh, chiding, "Don’t say that in front of them!"
"Of course not, I’m not stupid!" Lin Nannan grinned mischievously.
No wonder she felt that way. Even without interacting much with others, spending over ten hours in the delivery room had left her with unavoidable thoughts.
A wife going into labor without her husband by her side was one thing, but why couldn’t he at least handle things outside? She remembered clearly—when she was in labor, some essentials might have been forgotten, like sanitary pads, which were crucial during childbirth. What was wrong with asking the husband to go home and fetch it? In her case, her mother-in-law had sent A Hang back to get it. But for others, they made excuses, and the women ended up going themselves, leaving the pregnant woman alone and unattended. If not for the nurses, who knows what could’ve happened?
With situations like that, it was easy to imagine what pregnant women endured. So, if a baby was born frail, the father bore most of the responsibility...
They chatted quietly until the baby stirred—first wriggling, then smacking her lips, clearly hungry. When no response came, she let out a furious cry, indignant as if someone had pinched her, equal parts funny and heartbreaking.
"Don’t move!" Zhang Xiaofeng stood up to pick up the baby. "You can’t feed her yet. Let me give her some water first..."
Lin Nannan knew nothing about caring for a newborn, but she trusted her mother-in-law, who had raised two children, and stayed still.
After a sip of water, the baby stopped crying but continued whimpering. Zhang Xiaofeng quickly unswaddled her, removed the wet diaper, and replaced it with a clean one.
Watching this, Lin Nannan realized how much she had to learn—at the very least, she had no idea how to change diapers.
With a fresh diaper on, the baby settled and soon fell back asleep.
Thinking of her precious daughter’s cries, Lin Nannan whispered, "Mom, where’s A Hang?"
"He went home to get some things," Zhang Xiaofeng replied softly. "The Lin family sent over quite a few items, including bottles and formula. We were in such a hurry earlier that we forgot to bring them. While you were asleep, I went home to cook and forgot the sterilized bottles and formula, so I asked him to fetch them."
Hearing that Lu Hang had been by her side all along, Lin Nannan simply said, "Oh," and didn’t press further.
"Did A Hang call home?" she suddenly remembered and asked urgently.
"Yes, he even called Beijing. Everyone was overjoyed. Your father answered the call at home—A Hang said he was too choked up to speak." Zhang Xiaofeng’s lips curled into a smile, her eyes brimming with happiness.
Gazing at her sleeping daughter, Lin Nannan said with heartfelt joy, "From the moment she was born, she’s been treasured by everyone!"
And why not? As the eldest granddaughter of the Lu family and the granddaughter of the Lin family, she was destined to be cherished.
Lu Hang, now a father, acted like a giddy new dad. Sometimes he’d just stare at his daughter and grin stupidly, bragging about how perfect she is to anyone he met—as if he’d become a completely different person.
This was something Xiao Pei and others mentioned when they visited Lin Nannan in the hospital, and it had everyone laughing.
"Before Nan Nan came along, Commander Lu was the most unapproachable person here. We used to joke that a guy that icy might never even find a wife. Who would’ve thought? Not only did he land an amazing wife, but he’s also the husband and father who adores his wife and kid the most."
