"If they heard you say that, they’d probably be furious!" Zhang Xiaofeng chuckled.

"Exactly! They went to the mountains thinking they could avoid everyone, only to run into you!" Pan Xiaoping added.

Lin Nannan shrugged. "That’s their bad luck. They came after me first—otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered saying anything. Why waste my breath?"

"That Zhang Wenming is truly despicable. Several women from our village went out, all claiming they got in through his connections. If this gets investigated, all hell will break loose," Grandma Lu sighed.

"They deserve it!" Lu Ming gritted his teeth. "Didn’t you see how fiercely those people were kicking up a fuss earlier?"

"A Ming is right. If they hadn’t bullied Nannan, none of this would’ve happened. Nannan was merciful not to name names—otherwise, lives might’ve been lost," Grandma Lu agreed.

Hearing his family’s words, Lu Hang knew they stood firmly by Lin Nannan’s side. He looked up at her and said, "From now on, don’t be afraid if anything happens. No one can bully you, understand?"

"Mm!" Lin Nannan grinned happily. She had no intention of letting anyone push her around.

Though Lin Nannan had only exposed Zhang Wenming, the aftermath was far-reaching. Suspicion ran rampant—everyone began doubting their partners. If someone expressed sympathy for Zhang Wenming, they were immediately suspected of having an affair with him. Others who muttered a few words were accused of having secrets Lin Nannan might know. Taking a deep breath, she masked the hate in her eyes and pleaded, "If you divorce me now, aren’t you afraid people will rake you over the coals?"

The whole village knew why A Lin had married her. If he abandoned her now, he’d be a laughingstock.

A Lin seemed to realize this too and shot back, "If anyone asks, you’d better say you didn’t want to burden me and asked for the divorce yourself."
