Chapter 10
byChapter 10
Lin Nannan Drops a Bombshell
Lu Hang was taken aback by her resolute tone, thinking she cared deeply for him. A pang of bittersweet emotion hit him, tinged with regret...
If he hadn’t been injured, and they had married under normal circumstances, he could have protected her and ensured her a smooth life.
But now, the more he cared, the more he couldn’t bear to drag her down.
"In my condition, I can’t do anything. You’d be worn out dealing with everything alone. I can’t ruin your life—do you understand?" He sighed heavily.
"Nope!" Lin Nannan thought of her farmland slipping away and stubbornly retorted.
Lu Hang knew her upbringing meant no one had taught her these things, so her confusion was understandable. His tone softened. "Nan Nan, I’m not marriage material like this..."
"But we’re already married!" Afraid of losing her land, Lin Nannan’s voice grew firmer.
"This was a desperate move. You could do so much better!"
Lin Nannan was laser-focused on the land given by Grandma Lu, so she didn’t absorb a word of his earnest advice. Worn down, Lu Hang finally gave in. "Let’s hold off on having children for now. You’re still young..."
His clear reluctance left Lin Nannan with no choice but to agree. Still, she couldn’t resist adding, "When you’re ready for children, just tell me."
The request made Lu Hang’s breathing hitch. Under her insistence, he had no choice but to nod.
Even then, Lin Nannan muttered, "Strong parents make strong babies..."
Lu Hang didn’t dare argue, terrified she’d take matters into her own hands.
On their wedding night, Lin Nannan slept soundly, while Lu Hang—realizing the moment she clung to him—knew he was doomed. Predictably, he didn’t sleep a wink, his mind in chaos.
Uncomfortable and wired, he tossed and turned all night.
The next morning, Lin Nannan woke to find herself hugging Lu Hang. After a pause, she glanced up, saw he was still "asleep," and poked and prodded him a few times. She cocked her head and muttered, "Just like this, and they couldn’t cure him?"
She had no idea he was pretending to sleep. Hearing her words, he clenched his jaw to keep from opening his eyes or questioning her meaning.
What did she mean by "just like this, they couldn’t cure him"? His spine was shattered beyond repair—doctors had declared even the most skilled surgeons couldn’t heal him. He had accepted his fate of being bedridden for life. So why would Lin Nannan say such a thing? It threw him for a loop.
As Lu Hang’s head spun, he suddenly felt his body lifted into the air. Even with his strong composure, he couldn’t suppress his shock. His eyes snapped open, meeting Lin Nannan’s cheerful gaze.
"You’re awake! I shifted you out here for mealtime."
Face blank, Lu Hang’s thoughts raced—he had been genuinely startled.
"You..." Lu Hang licked his dry lips, his raspy voice cutting through the silence. "Just leave me on the outside next time."
Lin Nannan eyed him for a moment before dropping another bombshell: "Gotta take a leak?"
Lu Hang, who avoided drinking water at night to prevent midnight trips, coughed until his throat was raw. Weakly, he replied, "I just meant you don’t have to move me around..."
"Why’s that?" Lin Nannan eyed him suspiciously.
