    Chapter 161

    Lu Ming Returns Home

Once the outsiders left the village, not only Lin Nannan but even the villagers felt much more at ease.

Folks like Hu Yunlai, who spent all day working in the fields without causing trouble, were naturally liked by the villagers.

But people like Qiao Lu—they couldn’t stand her. Knowing she was gone, they felt like throwing a party.

The Lu family could finally relax too, since they all knew Qiao Lu had bad intentions and feared interacting with her might accidentally reveal Lu Hang’s whereabouts.

The last few days had been rough for them, but thankfully, she was finally gone.

“Mom, what exactly have A Ming and A Hang been doing? Why haven’t they come back after so many days?” Pan Xiaoping hadn’t dared ask before, afraid she might slip up and ruin Lu Hang’s plans.

She knew her son well—if it was just school stuff, he’d have been whining ages ago. He wouldn’t stay quiet unless he was helping Lu Hang with something, though she didn’t know what.

“It shouldn’t be much longer,” Grandma Lu said vaguely, her gaze fixed on the doorway.

They were just an ordinary family, wishing only for peace and safety.

Like they’d willed him home, Lu Ming returned the evening after Qiao Lu left, tired from travel but in good spirits.

“Where’s your brother?” Lu Zheng snapped the moment he saw his son pushing the wheelchair back.

Lu Ming hesitated, realizing his parents were still clueless. He looked helplessly at his grandmother, unsure if he should say anything.

Pan Xiaoping looked from the wheelchair to her son, her face fell. “Why did you bring your brother’s wheelchair back? What’s he supposed to sit on now?”

    Getting scolded left him flustered.

Grandma Lu almost laughed and stepped in. “Let’s talk later. Get A Ming something to eat and let him rest.”

“Grandma!” Lu Ming was nearly moved to tears.

Parents might let you down, but Grandma never would.

“I’ve already prepared something,” Zhang Xiaofeng called from the kitchen. She quickly fired up the stove and made a bowl of egg noodles, bringing it out on a tray. The smell had Lu Ming clutching his stomach as he exclaimed, “Auntie, that smells amazing!”

“Amazing? It’s just an egg. Hurry up and eat. We didn’t know you were coming, so there’s no meat at home,” Zhang Xiaofeng said, her heart aching seeing how thin he’d gotten.

Touched by her sister-in-law’s kindness, Pan Xiaoping gave her son a push. “Go eat. I’ll take care of these things.”

“Mom, only the blue bag is mine. The rest were sent by my brother for me to bring back,” Lu Ming said, digging in as he sat down.

Zhang Xiaofeng wiped her hands and walked over, eyeing the big bundles on the ground and wheelchair. “A Ming, did your brother say what’s inside?”

“I don’t know. The lighter one is probably for my sister-in-law. I didn’t look, so I’m not sure what’s in there,” Lu Ming replied between bites, his words muffled but understandable.

“Sister-in-law, help me unpack these and see what’s inside,” Zhang Xiaofeng said openly, no-nonsense.

“Alright!” Pan Xiaoping, equally straightforward, agreed without hesitation.

Other people’s kids might do well, but hers was just as good.
