Chapter 79

Anyone Hurt?
The man had missed such a great opportunity and was filled with regret, so he kept following Lin Nannan, asking how she had managed to hunt those wild boars...
Only after the boars were dragged into the Lu family’s courtyard did Lin Nannan let go of the vines. Rubbing her sore palms, she panted slightly and said, “It wasn’t all my doing—I just hit the jackpot!”
“Jackpot?” Several people asked together, completely baffled.
“Yeah,” Lin Nannan nodded. “When I went into the mountains, the boar was already injured, and the two piglets had been killed. But strangely, those people ran away, leaving behind a whole lot of blood in the mountains.”
Hearing this, the crowd exchanged wary glances.
“Was someone hunting in the back mountains?” someone murmured.
“What’s so shameful about hunting?” another asked.
“Exactly, what’s so shameful about hunting?” Lu Ming suddenly realized. “They had already injured the boars—shouldn’t they have pressed on? Or if reinforcements arrived, wouldn’t that be better? Why did they run?”
This didn’t seem like normal hunting at all. Instead, it felt like they had done something shady and fled out of guilt.
Lu Ding glanced at the boar on the ground and said cautiously, “Round up a group. We’ll go into the mountains to investigate!”
Hearing this, Lin Nannan turned to him and asked, “Village chief, do you need me to lead the way?”
“No need!” Lu Ding shook his head.
The trail she left while dragging the boar back was impossible to miss. They could simply follow it.
Though her offer was refused, Lin Nannan wasn’t upset. She looked at Zhang Xiaofeng with hopeful eyes and asked, “Mom, can we stew this meat?”
Zhang Xiaofeng's lips twitched, and she replied, “Yes, but we need to prepare it right away, or it’ll spoil.”
“I’ll go get someone right away!” Lu Ming said eagerly.
Of course, they needed a butcher for this.
Lin Nannan waited excitedly, only to be fussed at by Grandma Lu.
Looking at her grimy granddaughter-in-law from head to toe, the old woman poked her forehead in exasperation and said, “You’re filthy all over! Go wash up—the meat isn’t going anywhere!”
She’d realized that Lin Nannan’s personality was childlike—she was direct about what she wanted and did.
People like her usually got taken advantage of, but with Lin Nannan’s reckless bravery and immense strength, anyone who tried to mess with her would regret it. So far, she hadn’t suffered any losses.
Lin Nannan scratched her head, feeling dried leaves tangled in her hair, and broke into a silly grin before turning to head back inside.
“There’s hot water in the kitchen!” Grandma Lu called after her.
“Got it!” Lin Nannan replied. Soon after, she pushed Lu Hang out of the room, proudly displaying her haul.
Seeing the three wild boars of varying sizes in the courtyard, Lu Hang fell silent for a moment before asking, “Are you hurt?”
Lin Nannan shook her head. “No, don’t worry!”
Lu Hang wanted to say he was anything but reassured.
She had gone to pick herbs but came back with three wild boars. If she actually went hunting, who knew what she’d bring back next?
Right now, all he felt was fear—fear that she might unknowingly stumble into danger, especially since she often didn’t even realize it.
“A Yuan, keep an eye on your big brother,” Lin Nannan said, handing him over to Lu Yuan before heading to the kitchen to fetch water.
Eager to watch the butchering, Lin Nannan washed her hair and body at lightning speed, then stepped out with her hair still damp. At least she remembered to dry it, clutching a faded towel in her hand...
