Chapter 108

Lin Nannan's Request
"It's nothing. I just thought they were coming for me earlier, so I turned over too quickly when dodging. Plus, there was sand and dirt on the road, which gave me just a scratch. It’s no big deal." She explained casually, trying to pull her hand back, but Lu Hang firmly held onto it.
"Commander Zhang, is there a doctor?" Lu Hang asked.
"Yes!" Zhang Shengguo saw the rather severe scrape on Lin Nannan's palm and immediately said, "This way, I'll take you there!"
This time, Lu Hang didn’t refuse. He kept holding Lin Nannan’s hand without letting go.
Perhaps because they were relying on someone else's help, Zhang Shengguo went to thank the man, who kept staring intently at Lu Hang as if he recognized him.
"Do you know him?" That stare made Lin Nannan's skin crawl, as if something was off.
Lu Hang shook his head. "Never seen him before."
"Then why does he look shocked and suspicious?" She wondered.
At first, Lu Hang couldn’t figure it out either—he’d never had any dealings with people at the train station, so they shouldn’t know each other. But the man’s burning gaze, unwavering, left Lu Hang completely baffled. Eventually, his thoughts turned to the wheelchair, and he whispered to Lin Nannan, "Maybe he’s impressed by the special features of the wheelchair and wants it?"
Lin Nannan was startled. "No way. This wheelchair is one-of-a-kind. It could never be replicated."
"If he doesn’t bring it up, we won’t either." Even though the man had saved them, there are other ways to repay the favor.
This wheelchair was made by Nan Nan herself, and no matter what, he wouldn’t give it up.
Lin Nannan wasn’t one to meddle in others' affairs in the first place, and now that Lu Hang told her not to, she was even less inclined to.
Zhang Shengguo also noticed the man’s gaze, but since he didn’t understand the situation, he didn’t comment.
After handing over the lowlifes, he hurried back to take Lin Nannan to get treated.
No one mentioned the wheelchair.
"If possible, it’d be better for you to stay here. Going home might not be safe," Zhang Shengguo warned, recalling the earlier heart-stopping moment.
For Lu Hang, it didn’t matter where he went, as long as his family wasn’t dragged into trouble.
But he also knew that if he didn’t go back, Lin Nannan definitely would—she’d been talking nonstop about the crops she planted several times. So, in the end, if anyone was left behind, it would be him, and that wasn’t what he wanted. He had to go home.
Seeing she'd made up her mind, Zhang Shengguo sighed. "Then watch your back. And remind your wife—they probably see her as a thorn in their side now."
"Mm." Lu Hang nodded. Over there, Lin Nannan finished getting treated and came over, looking at Zhang Shengguo. "Commander Zhang, can you get me a gun?"
"A gun?" Both Zhang Shengguo and Lu Hang were stunned. "What do you need a gun for?"
"To fight off enemies, of course!" Wasn’t that obvious?
"You know how to use one?" Zhang Shengguo asked skeptically.
Lin Nannan nodded. "Yes."
"Who taught you? How do you know how to shoot?" Zhang Shengguo was puzzled.
Before Lin Nannan could answer, Lu Hang spoke first. "All her mentors—they were all exceptionally skilled. I’ve mentioned them to you before. They were reassigned to our village."
Zhang Shengguo seemed to recall something and nodded in realization, but then frowned. "Guns... they’re tough to get hold of."
Military regulations were strict—even if he wanted to, he couldn’t just get one.
Her face fell with disappointment. She felt nothing was as reliable as a gun.
"What about damaged ones?" She suddenly thought of something and asked Zhang Shengguo. "I don’t need it to be in working order. Even a broken and unusable one would do," she added.
