Han Yan Stirs Trouble

The Lu family members exchanged glances, too shocked to speak.

"Nan Nan is so obedient—how could she cause trouble? Besides, A Yuan is with her. I may not know others' temperaments, but A Yuan would never provoke anyone first," Grandma Lu regained her composure and said firmly.

Zhang Xiaofeng nodded in agreement.

"Enough talk—let’s go back!" Lu Fang said anxiously.

"Uncle, I can run fastest. I’ll go back first to check," Lu Ming quickly offered.

"Then go, hurry!" Lu Zheng urged his son.

As the Lu family appeared, more villagers trailed them to the Lu house to find out what had happened.

He Ye had run ahead and found Han Yan, blurting out what happened and pressing her, "Go talk to Lu Hang right away. Tell him this mess was all Lin Nannan’s causing—I was framed!"

When Han Yan heard what her mother had said, her heart skipped a beat, and she couldn’t help but scold, "Are you crazy? How could you say such things?"

If people latched onto this, she’d be the target of gossip too.

"I was just so angry about the Lu family choosing a simpleton over me. Seeing Lu Hang like this felt satisfying, and I couldn’t help but say a few extra words," He Ye said with a nervous laugh.

"What are you talking about? Lu Hang is like this—do you still expect me to be involved with him?" Han Yan shot back, both furious and amused.

She had been running down Lin Nannan out of resentment that the Lu family would rather take a fool than her, but she had no intention of being with Lu Hang in his current condition.

Her past interest in Lu Hang had been solely because of his promise—he could take her away from this village. But she never expected that his promise came with risks.

When she heard the news that Lu Hang was paralyzed and would be bedridden for life, she’d been secretly relieved. She wanted nothing to do with him now.

He Ye flinched, finally realizing her mistake.

"What do we do now?" she asked.

Han Yan took a deep breath. "I’ll handle this!"

This had to be contained. She had to make sure Lin Nannan bore the blame.

She was also convinced that, compared to Lin Nannan, she—who had grown up in the Lu family—would be trusted more by them.

The two households were close, so by the time Han Yan arrived, Lin Nannan and the others hadn’t returned yet. She marched right up to the door of Lu Hang’s room and cooed, "A Hang, I have something to tell you..."

Lu Hang, who had been wrestling with his feelings about Lin Nannan, snapped the moment he heard Han Yan’s voice and said sharply, "Han Yan, I’m married."

An unmarried woman showing up at a married man’s doorstep—what message did that send? He refused to believe Han Yan didn’t know.

Besides, he was certain that the current him wasn’t what she wanted. Whatever her intentions, he didn’t want her inside.

The warning made Han Yan grit her teeth. "A Hang, you’ve misunderstood. I really have something important to tell you..."

"Your business has nothing to do with me," Lu Hang said decisively.

His icy demeanor made Han Yan see red.

"What if it’s about Lin Nannan?" she shot back.

His lack of denial meant he cared—and that made Han Yan boil with resentment.

Lin Nannan had just married into the family yesterday. Before that, she and Lu Hang hadn’t even known each other—yet he was already protecting her. And what about her? She had grown up with him, shared a childhood with him!

"If it’s about Nan Nan, I won’t hear it from you," Lu Hang said. He was worried about Lin Nannan, but he wouldn’t listen to Han Yan’s provocations.
