Chapter 701
by 夏至三候Chapter 701:
Don’t Rush
Knowing her mother-in-law was venting her frustration, Lin Nannan didn’t take it seriously. She said reassuringly, "A Yuan said it’s not that she doesn’t want to find someone, but the people Mr. Hu introduced just aren’t suitable for her. So she said that when she comes this time, she’ll have her big brother introduce her to someone suitable, and maybe it’ll work out."
This was such a sudden piece of good news that Zhang Xiaofeng couldn’t believe it. She asked skeptically, "Did she really say that?"
"Mom, would I lie to you? Of course, she said it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have thought of it," Lin Nannan assured her earnestly.
Zhang Xiaofeng knew Lin Nannan’s character and understood she wouldn’t meddle in such matters. Since Lin Nannan said so, it must have come from A Yuan. Delighted, she immediately said, "When Lu Hang gets back, we’ll have a good talk with him and see who might be a good match for A Yuan. If they hit it off, they could marry next year, and maybe by the second half of next year, I could become a grandmother."
Though the plan seemed rushed, Lin Nannan didn’t dare complain aloud...
"You’re being too hasty," Zhou Cuiwei interjected, unable to hold back. "When it comes to marrying off a daughter, you have to look carefully and choose wisely. Otherwise, it’s a lifelong matter, and regrets will come too late."
"I’m just worried!" Zhang Xiaofeng sighed. "All my children are accomplished, but aside from Lu Hang, the other two have had such trouble with marriage. You have no idea how much gossip I’ve heard in the village. Because of this, A Yuan doesn’t even want to come back, afraid we’ll bring it up with her."
"But you can’t blame the child," Zhou Cuiwei said understandingly. "A Yuan has seen a lot in the capital. She’ll want someone she can really talk to. If you ask her to find someone from the village, how would they appreciate her strengths? They might just expect her to come home and have children."
"Sigh, I know. That’s why I haven’t pressured her, but I’m still worried!"
"Why worry? Zheng Min is older than A Yuan. Back then, she also took her time getting married, and we were all anxious. But she changed her surname, moved out, and we couldn’t say much. She wouldn't listen to a soul and insisted on choosing according to her own wishes—and she really found a good match. Now, she’s living a happy life and is about to give birth."
"Really?" Zhang Xiaofeng asked in surprise.
"Yes. A Min has no family left, but she has her own job, so she found someone reliable and responsible. Her in-laws are reasonable people, so she can speak her mind and won’t be bullied. If we had arranged things for her, it would’ve been a mismatch, and A Min would’ve suffered." Zhou Cuiwei had a heart-to-heart with her, urging her not to let impatience lead to poor decisions that could ruin her daughter’s life.
Zhang Xiaofeng was deeply moved by her words and nodded. "You’re right. This matter can’t be rushed. Marriage is no joke!"
Seeing her mother-in-law had been persuaded, Lin Nannan breathed a sigh of relief and secretly gave her mother a thumbs-up.
Zhou Cuiwei smiled but didn’t point out her little gesture.
Lu Hang returned very late, and only Lin Nannan was left at home. Lu Dudu had been taken to the neighbor’s to sleep.
"Does she not care about us anymore?" Lu Hang remarked wistfully when he noticed their daughter wasn’t there.
Lin Nannan replied, exasperated, "Isn’t it good that someone’s taking care of her?"
"It’s not that it’s not good—I just miss her!" Lu Hang said as he changed clothes.
"It’s only for a few days. Once they leave, you won’t be able to shake her off no matter how busy you are," Lin Nannan teased.
Lu Hang pinched her nose and said, "How can you talk about your own daughter like that?"
"I can," Lin Nannan retorted. Then, remembering something, she narrowed her eyes and said, "Comrade Lu Hang, I’ve noticed lately that you’re completely focused on your precious daughter and don’t care about me at all!"
