    Chapter 11

    No Peace in Sight

"It’s *so* inconvenient moving me around!" Lu Hang explained bluntly when he saw she genuinely didn’t understand.

"How’s it inconvenient?" Lin Nannan said dismissively before steering the conversation back. "Need to pee?"

The usually composed Lu Hang finally flushed red, surrendering awkwardly. "My dad will be here soon..."

"Can he manage alone?" Lin Nannan asked curiously.

"He can!" Lu Hang replied through slightly gritted teeth.

He *had* to manage—even if he couldn’t... If Lin Nannan carried him to relieve himself, he’d rather bash his head into a wall.

Lin Nannan’s eyes gleamed as she said, "Alright, then you stay here. I’ll go find someone."

She thought Lu Hang was making things unnecessarily complicated, but she was eager to check the fields, so she let him be.

Lu Hang turned his head to watch her hurriedly open the door and leave, a nagging unease settling in his heart.

This wife of his made him feel like their future life would be anything but peaceful—not a shred of calm in sight.

No matter how conflicted Lu Hang was, Lin Nannan was thoroughly satisfied with her life.

Though there was no advanced technology, there was food and drink, and no real dangers. She loved it, her face beaming. This matched everyone’s image of her, so no one suspected a thing.

"Nan Nan, are you hungry? Breakfast is almost ready. Go freshen up first," Grandma Lu said warmly when she saw Lin Nannan enter, her heart full of affection for the girl who didn’t disdain her paralyzed grandson.

Lin Nannan nodded readily and smiled. "Grandma, A Hang is awake. He won’t let me help—he wants *your* dad to help."

Grandma Lu was momentarily taken aback by her bluntness before chuckling. "Your dad knows. He’ll be there soon."

Assured they wouldn’t neglect Lu Hang, Lin Nannan didn’t press further.

After washing up, she returned to find steaming multigrain porridge cooling on the table and a full basin of coarse black steamed buns making her fingers itch to grab one.

Everything here *tastes* delicious to her—after all, she had never eaten farm-fresh crops or farm-raised meat before. So she cherished every bite, finding everything wonderfully flavorful.

"Why’s everyone just standing around? Let’s eat. There’s still work in the fields later," Grandma Lu called out cheerfully as she emerged from the kitchen with a bowl of minced pork stir-fried with pickled vegetables. She then turned to Lu Yuan. "A Yuan, look out for her."

"I know!" Lu Yuan, having witnessed her sister-in-law’s strength, believed no one could suit her elder brother better than Lin Nannan. So she genuinely adored her.

"Eat up, sister-in-law—as much as you want!" Lu Yuan snatched up a bun and handed it to Lin Nannan with a smile.

Lin Nannan accepted it without hesitation, without a bride’s usual shyness. It was as if she had grown up in the Lu household, delighting the family.

Most brides were timid and bashful in their first few days, but Lin Nannan did the opposite—acting so at home that it was both hilarious and endearing.

After all, the whole village knew Lin Nannan’s rough upbringing, so they were all the more forgiving toward her.

"*Burp!*" Under Lu Yuan’s guidance, Lin Nannan learned to stuff the buns with pork and pickles. She devoured three buns and two bowls of rice soup before letting out a satisfied burp under everyone’s stunned gazes.

"*Pfft!*" Grandma Lu and the others couldn’t help but burst into laughter at her shameless burp.
