Chapter 674
by 夏至三候Chapter 674
Lu Dudu, Don't Run
All his tactics were half as effective the moment Lu Dudu started wailing and crying for help. His head was buzzing, and all he could think about was getting her to be quiet quickly. So he threatened, "If you don't stop crying right now, you'll never see your parents again!"
Although Lu Dudu was young, she was clever. Especially since she had seen someone threaten her mother before, she knew the man in front of her was a bad guy. There was no way she would believe him. So she kept crying, but her eyes were secretly scanning, trying to figure out how she could get away from this man.
She knew that if she were really taken away, she would never see her parents again. So she pretended to cry, all to find a way to break free.
Back at the base, Lu Dudu had been trained by the big shots. The first lesson she learned was what to do if she were kidnapped and how to escape.
At the time, they had nothing better to do and figured teaching her something was better than nothing, so they taught Lu Dudu how to handle various situations. Even Lin Nannan had participated once and was tricked by her seemingly obedient but actually cunning daughter, and got teased by everyone.
Lu Dudu was very familiar with these tactics. She knew she couldn't openly defy Zhang Yao; she had to find a way to escape. And she only had one chance—there definitely wouldn't be a second.
She could even imagine that if her plan failed, Zhang Yao would definitely drug her unconscious again.
She hated being drugged—it made her completely unaware of everything.
Facing the scrutinizing looks from others, Zhang Yao braced himself and explained that the child was crying because she was greedy for food, but inwardly, he was cursing Yu Ying to death.
She had promised that the sedative would ensure Lu Dudu stayed unconscious until they were safely on the train, but instead, she woke up even before they boarded and was causing a scene. If he couldn't calm her down, things would go wrong sooner or later.
"Stop crying, you hear me?" After explaining over and over, afraid of missing his train and worried that Lu Hang might get wind of it and come after him, Zhang Yao glared at her fiercely. But Lu Dudu didn’t listen to him. Instead, she complained, "I don’t want to be in the box! It’s so uncomfortable! I don’t want to!"
Zhang Yao wanted to drug her unconscious—then he could do whatever he wanted. But now he didn’t dare say it outright. Instead, he coaxed her in a low voice, "As long as you behave, I won’t put you in the box. But if you keep crying, I’ll stuff you back in there until you can’t even breathe!"
Her eyes red from crying, Lu Dudu nodded pitifully, pouting and asking in a pleading tone, "Where are you taking me? Where are my mom and dad?"
Zhang Yao had seen Lu Dudu before but had never spent time with her. Although he didn’t know much about her, he now clearly felt that this child was different from others. She seemed to be throwing a tantrum, but she was actually negotiating with him, and he was even giving in. If this kept up, who knew how it would end? Besides, he hated handling children. So, faced with a crying Lu Dudu, he felt not a shred of pity—all he could think about was how to drug her unconscious.
Just in case, he had brought the sedative with him, but now he had no chance to use it.
He was sure that if he made even the slightest suspicious move, Lu Dudu would resist.
If they were somewhere else, no matter how she resisted, he could handle her like catching a chick—no need to worry.
But now it was different. People were coming and going everywhere. If he made a move and Lu Dudu started screaming and crying, someone would notice, and all his efforts would be wasted.
To successfully take Lu Dudu away, he had to force a smile and coax her, "Your parents are busy. They’ll come later. Come with me first. As long as you stop crying, I’ll buy you something delicious later, and I won’t stuff you in the box either!"
"Really?" Lu Dudu asked, surprised.
"Absolutely!" Zhang Yao assured her.
Lu Dudu immediately believed him and nodded, saying, "Then I’ll listen to you. Don’t forget to buy me something delicious!"
Seeing that a little treat was enough to trick her, Zhang Yao breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Okay, once we’re inside, I’ll buy you something delicious. I’ll buy you whatever you want."
As long as he sprinkled the drug on the food, he could make sure she’d sleep like a log...
Seeing his assurance, Lu Dudu relaxed, as if she really believed him. She even actively took his hand and happily followed him inside. To anyone watching, they would have thought they were familiar with each other.
Lu Dudu returned to her usual lively self, looking around curiously, completely unafraid and not crying despite her situation, as if she truly believed Zhang Yao’s words.
Watching her chirp away with endless questions and showing no fear, Zhang Yao thought maliciously, I wonder if she’ll still be able to smile when I abandon her alone.
Too bad he wouldn’t be able to see it for himself.
Inside the train station, people were constantly coming and going, many with children. Zhang Yao didn’t dare to barge through. If he caused a disturbance, it would only draw attention. Left with no other choice, he picked Lu Dudu up and carried the empty suitcase forward. However, his injured arm hadn’t fully recovered, and he lacked the strength. Before long, he had to put her down, growing even more resentful of Lin Nannan.
If Lin Nannan had helped him, he wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.
His arm injury hadn’t healed, left him too weak, which made returning to his hometown pointless. And all of this was Lin Nannan’s fault.
If she had given him a hand, he wouldn’t have had to leave the military and could have continued pursuing his goals in the army.
But Lin Nannan had refused, cutting off his last option. So don't blame him for being ruthless—he had learned it from them.
“It hurts!” Lu Dudu felt a sharp pain in her little hand and immediately cried out. Seeing that Zhang Yao showed no reaction, she used her other hand to hit him: “Let go, you’re hurting me!”
Zhang Yao snapped out of it, realizing that in his anger, he had unconsciously tightened his grip. He quickly released her hand and stammered an explanation: “I didn’t mean to—I was just thinking about something, so I must have squeezed your hand too hard.”
“You’re a big meanie! I don’t want you anymore!” With that, Lu Dudu turned and took off into the crowd, leaving Zhang Yao—still holding the suitcase and apologizing—stunned. When he realized she had slipped away right under his nose, he snapped to attention and shouted: “Lu Dudu, stop right there!”
Lu Dudu paid him no mind. She had finally seized an opportunity and had no intention of being caught again.
“Lu Dudu, stop! Don’t run off! Lu Dudu, did you hear me?”
Zhang Yao chased after her, furious and flustered, but Lu Dudu completely ignored him…
Meanwhile, having just gotten off the train, Lu Fang and his wife found themselves weighed down with luggage and unable to push through the crowd. They decided to wait until the crowd thinned to avoid losing anything in the rush—it would be too late to regret it afterward.
Just then, they heard someone shouting “Lu Dudu” and instinctively exchanged a glance…
