Chapter 644

The Plan
Lin Nannan couldn't share these matters with Hu Zhaoxia, worried it might scare her. Besides, some things were confidential and couldn't be discussed.
"Whatever they're after, it's not the right time to tip them off. We should wait until Lu Hang returns," Lin Nannan said.
Hu Zhaoxia nodded in agreement.
"You're right. Let's wait until Commander Lu comes back. No matter what schemes they have, they wouldn't dare do anything in the military compound. Still, you should be careful—that Yu Ying is no simple person," Hu Zhaoxia reminded her.
Lin Nannan nodded, then said with a smile, "I’m staying here for dinner today. I'm skipping the mess hall."
Hu Zhaoxia didn’t think twice and nodded directly. "Of course! If you like my cooking, you can bring Du Du over every day. I love having more people at the table—it makes it livelier."
Lin Nannan didn’t hold back, laying on the flattery thick, making even Lu Dudu side-eye her.
There was something off about Mom!
She blinked and looked at Lin Nannan. "Mom, is Old Ma’s cooking not good? You’ve never praised him like this!"
Lin Nannan met Hu Zhaoxia’s amused gaze, her mind went blank. She’d been thrown under the bus by her own daughter.
"Both are delicious, hehe!" For the sake of a good meal, she had a thick skin.
Hu Zhaoxia couldn't help but laugh at her antics...
When Political Commissar Chen returned and saw two extra dinner guests at home, he wasn’t surprised. Instead, he greeted them as usual, only to find himself the target of Lin Nannan's attention.
Lu Dudu stayed in the kitchen with Hu Zhaoxia, getting fed, while Lin Nannan sat with Political Commissar Chen on the chairs in his living room...
"What’s wrong?" Political Commissar Chen asked, puzzled by the look Lin Nannan was giving him.
"Who is Yu Yao?" she asked point-blank.
Political Commissar Chen glanced at her in surprise. "Weren’t you having a great time roughing up those people these past few days? How did Yu Yao enter the picture?"
"Do you know why I beat them up?" Lin Nannan asked curiously.
"I really don’t," Political Commissar Chen shook his head.
Lin Nannan filled him in on what had happened over the past few days and shrugged helplessly. "If I used my full strength on those military wives, I’d probably cripple them. So, I went after the ones who could handle it and ended up with a name—Yu Ying. Then Aunt Hu told me a lot, and I realized Yu Yao is very suspicious. That’s why I wanted to ask—what role is he playing?"
She was so forward because she trusted Political Commissar Chen.
Anyone close to Lu Hang was someone she could trust. Besides, he had warned her last time; otherwise, she might have been in trouble.
Political Commissar Chen hadn’t expected her to connect all the dots with just a few words. But thinking of her capabilities, he chuckled softly. "We originally didn’t want you involved in these troubles, but it seems they’ve jumped right in front of you."
It dawned on Lin Nannan as she suddenly understood. The rumors weren’t something they had ignored, nor was Lu Hang unaware—they had let it happen intentionally.
Perhaps they were trying to smoke someone out, but no one expected her to return suddenly with Lu Dudu while Lu Hang was away. There was no one to explain it to her.
Political Commissar Chen and the others had intended not to bring it up unless it reached her, but she had figured it out on her own.
"So, how should I cooperate now?" Lin Nannan batting her eyes and asked. "Should I take Du Du back home?"
It seemed that since arriving at the base, she hadn’t called home or checked in with anyone back in Beijing. She wondered how much they had worried about her these past two years.
