Chapter 115
by 夏至三候Chapter 115
Gun Assembly
Lin Nannan spent several consecutive days gathering herbs, processing them, and then brewing medicine for Lu Hang. She handled everything personally, looking like a real pro.
Only Lin Nannan knew she was just faking it.
As for the herbal concoction, it genuinely benefited the bones and muscles, so she used it with confidence.
The first time Lu Hang drank the medicine, he found it bitter as hell—so much so that he nearly vomited. But Lin Nannan clamped a hand over his mouth, giving him no chance to spit it out.
"This medicine is precious. Don't you dare waste a drop. If you spit it out, I won’t give you any more," she warned sternly.
Lu Hang just nodded.
After drinking the medicine for several days, he began to feel a tingling warmth in his previously numb lower back. It was then that Zhang Shengguo showed up with a crew.
Lu Hang clearly sensed the changes in his body, but he kept it to himself until he fully recovered.
Zhang Shengguo brought quite a few people with him, including some who were secretly protecting the Lu family. He even brought a pile of discarded guns, which instantly made Lin Nannan think he was awesome.
With something fun to play with, Lin Nannan blew off Lu Hang.
She continued working away in the back shed, banging away. No one was allowed to approach—Lu Hang had made it clear to avoid disturbing her.
Focused on assembling the gun, Lin Nannan stopped watching her crops. She only reminded the researchers, "Observe and take notes all you want, but don’t pick anything randomly. If the villagers catch you, they’ll run you out of town!"
Initially, the villagers had bought into Lu Hang's story, but later, seeing how extraordinary the crops were, they became more proactive. They wouldn’t allow strangers near, worried they'd mess things up.
If the researchers didn’t behave, the villagers wouldn’t go easy on them.
Zhang Shengguo laid down the law to avoid unnecessary trouble.
And so, the villagers kept watch over the researchers, Zhang Shengguo stayed with Lu Hang, and Lin Nannan did her own thing...
Several days later, Lin Nannan finally emerged from the backyard. The first thing she said to Zhang Shengguo was, "I need bullets!"
Without bullets, the thing she had painstakingly crafted would be totally useless.
Zhang Shengguo and Lu Hang’s gazes fell on the gun in Lin Nannan’s hands, assembled from scrap parts. Their interest was immediately piqued.
Zhang Shengguo had anticipated this and came prepared.
Not getting his hopes up, he didn’t hand the bullets to Lin Nannan right away.
"Let’s test it in the backyard!" Lu Hang quickly told everyone in the Lu household to stay away from the rear courtyard.
Zhang Shengguo took the gun from Lin Nannan’s hands since she needed to push Lu Hang to the backyard.
Once he had it, Zhang Shengguo gave it a once-over before growing serious.
Even without bullets, he loaded it and found that this unassuming object worked like a charm—smooth without any jams...
Just as Lin Nannan was about to demand bullets from Zhang Shengguo, he made his move. He pulled out the bullets he had brought, loaded them, and aimed at a large tree in the backyard. With a loud "bang," the bullet buried itself deep in the trunk, leaving Zhang Shengguo stunned.
"This... this actually works?" he stammered excitedly.
Lin Nannan just scoffed. "Still not good enough. I was hoping it could penetrate the tree."
Lu Hang and Zhang Shengguo just stared at her. She was trying to kill them with shock.
She had turned useless scraps into a formidable gun—and yet, she wasn’t satisfied.
