Chapter 490

Not Close
Lin Nannan was taking care of the discharge paperwork while the rest of the Lin family were packing up their things and preparing to leave the hospital. Just then, Jiang Xiaomeng arrived.
She looked pale and worn out as she said to Lin Nannan, "Sis, I’m much better now. Since your family members are being discharged, you don't have to come by anymore. I can handle the rest myself."
"It’s no trouble. The doctor said you’re almost fully recovered. I’ll come back when you’re discharged," Lin Nannan replied, frowning. "You should get back to your room now. If you stay out too long, you might feel dizzy again."
Jiang Xiaomeng nodded. "Alright!"
The grandmother, relieved that her husband and son had recovered, was in high spirits and saw everything in a positive light. Seeing how cooperative Jiang Xiaomeng was, she couldn’t help but remark, "She’s so sweet-natured, yet she looks so pale. She must not have rested properly. It’s kind of heartbreaking to see."
The others wore mixed expressions but remained silent. Zhou Cuiwei, however, glanced at her daughter’s face and then at Jiang Xiaomeng’s figure walking away before asking with a frown, "Nan Nan, don’t you like her?"
This question drew the attention of the entire Lin family toward Lin Nannan. She paused for a moment before responding, "It’s not that I dislike her. We’re just not close."
Her answer seemed somewhat contradictory. After all, they had known each other before, and now Jiang Xiaomeng had even saved her. How could they still be considered "not close"?
Moreover, the young woman seemed quite kind. Claiming they weren’t close felt a bit odd.
"If you’re not close, then so be it. As for her helping you, once she’s fully recovered, you can send her some food or give her some money to make it right," the grandfather said matter-of-factly. After all, his granddaughter wasn’t particularly warm toward her own grandfather either.
This time, getting injured felt worth it to him because it made him realize that beneath his granddaughter’s aloof exterior, she still cared deeply for her family.
"Yeah," Lin Nannan agreed readily with her grandfather’s suggestion.
The rest of the Lin family didn’t comment further. It was Lin Nannan’s matter to handle, and besides, they knew that in such situations, she was capable of protecting herself without needing anyone’s help.
Jiang Xiaomeng’s assistance had been unnecessary. Taking care of her had not only been a waste of effort but also ended up costing money, especially since Jiang Xiaomeng’s older brother also needed attention after the incident.
Such thoughts were only privately held among the Lin family members. They would never voice them openly.
…
Back home, the place immediately livened up.
The children, who hadn’t seen their family members for a long time, couldn’t help but crowd around them, chattering excitedly. No one found the noise bothersome; instead, everyone was all smiles.
The incident involving the grandfather and Lin Zhaoyou had caused quite a stir, and nearly everyone in the capital had heard about it. As a result, a steady stream of visitors came to see the grandfather, and the Lin family’s house had a constant flow of visitors for days.
Lin Nannan disliked all the commotion. She wasn’t familiar with most of the visitors, and she felt uncomfortable under their once-over looks. To avoid them, she often took Du Du and hid away. If she couldn’t avoid the situation entirely, she simply went back to the hospital, as Jiang Xiaomeng’s matter was still unresolved.
The hospital smelled as bad as always. When Lin Nannan arrived, she didn’t see Jiang Xiaomeng. After asking the patient in the neighboring bed, she learned that Jiang Xiaomeng had gone to visit her older brother.
Lin Nannan had only met Jiang Xiaopeng once before—back when Jiang Xiaomeng was injured, and she had gone to inform him and sort things out.
Now, hearing that Jiang Xiaomeng had gone to see Jiang Xiaopeng, Lin Nannan assumed she must be almost fully recovered since she was able to walk around and hadn’t mentioned feeling unwell.
When Lin Nannan arrived, the siblings were deep in conversation—one lying down and the other sitting—both looking pretty serious.
"Xiaomeng, Comrade Lin is here," Jiang Xiaopeng said, noticing Lin Nannan first and alerting his sister, who had her back to the door.
