Absurd Rumors
"Stop treating me like a kid!" Lin Nannan said earnestly.
Lu Hang chuckled. "Remember how you wrestled Lu Ming for food? Wasn’t that childish enough?"
He hadn’t witnessed it himself, but his mom came in, struggling to keep a straight face as she described the scene. The image immediately formed in his mind, and he couldn’t help but laugh too.
"He was the one stealing from me!" The second food came up, Lin Nannan became defensive.
"Mm, I’ll roll up to meals in my wheelchair from now on. If he tries to bully you, I’ll score points by helping," Lu Hang took the opportunity to score points.
He could tell that his wife would do all sorts of things for him, but she was still clueless—she treated him like some chore. It stung, but he preferred to teach her slowly, letting her recognize his goodness and gradually accept him.
"Okay!" Lin Nannan nodded without hesitation, like it was obvious.
While the couple chatted inside, things outside were getting weird.
Zhang Xiaofeng was feeling good, planning to buy some meat to stew for Nan Nan in the evening—after all, the girl loved meat.
But as soon as she stepped out, everyone she met congratulated her. When she finally snapped out of her confusion and asked for details, she was told that Lin Nannan was pregnant. Her jaw dropped.
She knew Nan Nan and A Hang hadn’t consummated their marriage, so where did this child come from?
No—Nan Nan wasn’t pregnant at all. Where did such an outrageous rumor even come from?
Steaming mad, she shot it down and angrily scolded those spreading the gossip, losing all interest in buying meat.
If it weren’t for Nan Nan’s love of meat, she would’ve gone straight home.
Afraid of running into villagers who’d pester her with questions, Zhang Xiaofeng slipped through back alleys after buying the meat, managing to avoid most people.
When she got home, she laid out what happened, scowling. "Who knows what they’re scheming? The whole village is spreading it now—saying our Nan Nan is pregnant."
Granny Lu found it unbelievable. "Where did this even come from? How absurd!"
"Who knows? I was completely baffled too. Nan Nan has either been in the fields or at home these past few days—she hasn’t gone anywhere else. How would anyone know she’s knocked up?" Zhang Xiaofeng was cooking up wild theories, suspecting someone was targeting Nan Nan, never imagining it was just a ridiculous misunderstanding.
The wooden door wasn’t soundproof, and Zhang Xiaofeng’s voice wasn’t quiet. Lin Nannan overheard her words, then placed a hand on her stomach and glanced at Lu Hang lying beside her, giving him the stink eye. "If you’d just had a baby with me on our first day of marriage, maybe I’d actually be pregnant by now."
This topic made Lu Hang want to crawl under a rock. He already had feelings for Lin Nannan, and with her constantly pressuring him about having children, he’d long been considering it—just waiting a little longer. But now, the entire village was forcing the issue, and it wore him out.
"They’re talking nonsense. Don’t take it to heart," he soothed.
"I don’t care about them. I care about you—when are you going to have a baby with me?" Nan Nan wouldn’t let it go.
Lu Hang massaged his forehead. "Don’t worry, we’ll have children. But my health isn’t great—I need time to recover, right?"
He was playing the odds—betting that even if she didn’t understand emotions, she still had a soft spot for him deep down and would soften at his words.
Sure enough, after he spoke, Nan Nan dropped it. "Then let’s both focus on getting healthier and aim for triplets in one go!"
Lu Hang really wanted to tell her that the Lu family had no history of twins, let alone triplets.
But seeing her hopeful expression, he bit his tongue.
