Chapter 431

Medicine Takes a Backseat to Meat
After confirming the items hadn’t been lost and giving clear instructions, Lu Hang hung up the phone.
Lin Kangnian, still holding the phone, pondered how to explain things to his family.
Lin Kangjian, noticing his elder brother’s hesitation, asked curiously, “What’s wrong?”
Lin Kangnian gestured with the medicine bottle in his hand. It clicked for Lin Kangjian, his eyes widening in shock as he blurted out, “Did Nan Nan send this?”
His loud exclamation finally got the attention of the rest of the Lin family, who were busy dividing the goods.
“What’s going on?” Lin Zhaoyou narrowed his eyes at his two sons, who were acting shady.
Lin Kangjian was about to speak, but Lin Kangnian stopped him.
Since he was fine now, he could explain, but he didn’t want to frighten his wife or grandmother. So, he held his younger brother back and said to his father, “Dad, I need to talk to you.”
The serious tone made Lin Zhaoyou wary.
“Let’s go upstairs,” Lin Zhaoyou said, seeing his son’s earnest expression.
Lin Kangnian also called his grandfather, who had been watching the meat distribution, to join them—otherwise, Grandpa would’ve stared at the meat until it was done, simply because it was sent by his granddaughter.
In the study on the second floor, everyone except Lin Kangsheng, who was at work, had gathered.
“What’s this about?” Lin Zhaoyou asked his eldest son impatiently.
Lin Kangnian placed the overlooked medicine bottle on the table and said with a raised eyebrow, “*This* is from Nan Nan. It’s lifesaving.”
“What do you mean, ‘lifesaving’?” Lin Zhaoyou glanced at the bottle, puzzled.
“Well…” Lin Kangjian, taking his brother’s cue, carefully recounted the incident at the military camp. “At the time, even the doctors had given up on Big Brother. But Nan Nan used this medicine to save him. Because it worked *miracles*, we kept it a secret.”
Lin Kangnian’s grandfather and father exchanged glances, their shock unmistakable.
“Are you telling the truth?” Grandfather eyed the unremarkable bottle skeptically.
“Grandfather, if you don’t believe me, you can ask Lu Jian’an. Given our family’s connections, you can get the full story,” Lin Kangnian said.
The old man didn’t respond immediately. He knew how bad Kangnian’s injuries were—Lu Hang had spelled it out over the phone. Even without the later events, they knew such injuries would normally take months to heal. Yet Lin Kangnian had returned as if nothing had happened, fighting against taking even a day off unless forced by the family. Clearly, the medicine Nan Nan had provided was responsible.
The results were *unreal*.
“Who else knows about this medicine?” the old man asked.
He didn’t want his granddaughter dragged back into trouble again.
Lin Kangnian thought for a moment. “Only a handful of people knew at the time—just us siblings, Lu Hang, and Dr. Lu. The rest only had guesses. Now, you all know too.”
After a long silence, the old man warned, “Nan Nan joined the military to avoid unwanted attention. If people find out she possesses something this extraordinary, they’ll stop at nothing to force her out. So, once we leave this study, not a word leaves this room about this medicine. Pretend it *never* existed. Understood?”
“Grandfather, Nan Nan insisted we keep this on us—it could save our lives,” Lin Kangnian said quietly.
“Carrying something this valuable? What were you thinking?” the old man scolded.
Lin Kangnian rubbed his temples, knowing it would be hard to change his grandfather’s mind. He backed down: “Fine, the rest of us don’t have to carry it. But *at least* you and Grandmother must keep some with you.”
