Chapter 549
by 夏至三候Chapter 549
The Eldest Granddaughter
The Lu family snapped out of it and, without a second thought, piled outside, only to meet the car partway down the road.
The road in front of the Lu family’s home had originally been quite narrow. Later, because of Lu Hang and Lin Nannan’s connection, the family had it widened, making it much wider than before. Even with a crowd gathered around, the car could still move forward, though it was slow-going.
As soon as Lin Nannan saw the Lu family approaching, she had the car stop and got out first.
"Dad, Mom, Grandma, second uncle, second aunt..." Lin Nannan greeted them with a warm smile.
"What brings you back so suddenly without warning? We could have picked you up!" Zhang Xiaofeng asked, puzzled.
Just as Lin Nannan opened her mouth to explain, Du Du in the car couldn’t contain herself anymore.
Earlier, when the villagers had crowded around, Du Du had already been bouncing with excitement on her grandmother’s lap. Now, hearing her mother’s voice but not seeing her, she grew even more restless and made a noise, instantly capturing the Lu family’s attention.
"What’s that…?"
Lin Nannan chuckled, turned back to the car, bent down, and lifted Du Du out. Tapping the baby’s nose playfully, she said, "Couldn’t wait to see Grandpa and Grandma, huh?"
A fair, chubby baby with big, round eyes, brightly engaging with everyone—who could resist such a sight?
The Lu family’s hearts melted at first glance. How could anyone resist? Each of them wanted to hold the baby in their arms and shower her with affection.
"Du Du," Zhang Xiaofeng recognized her eldest granddaughter at once, calling out her name while trying to contain her excitement.
Though the baby had changed a lot since her first month celebration, traces of her earlier features remained. With eyes exactly like Lu Hang’s, Zhang Xiaofeng knew without an introduction that this was her Lu family grandchild.
Du Du wasn’t shy at all. She had been babbling excitedly to her mother about her thoughts when she suddenly heard someone call her name. Instinctively, she gave an "ah" of response, turned toward the voice, and saw a stranger. She was about to turn back when she heard the voice call "Du Du" again. She let out a soft "mm" and stared, wide-eyed and unblinking, looking utterly adorable.
"That’s Grandma. She adores you!" Lin Nannan introduced her while gently placing the baby into her mother-in-law’s arms, not giving Du Du any time to react.
Zhang Xiaofeng, flustered but overjoyed, cradled her eldest granddaughter, too moved to speak.
Zhou Cuiwei couldn’t stay in the car any longer. With villagers blocking the front of the vehicle, it was faster to walk than to wait for the car to move.
"Well, if it isn’t our in-law!" Lu Fang exclaimed upon seeing Zhou Cuiwei step out. Though a bit surprised, he greeted her warmly.
The rest of the Lu family, who had been focused on Du Du, shifted their attention. Faced with so many pairs of eyes, Zhou Cuiwei froze for a moment before managing a stiff, polite smile.
Though curious about why Zhou Cuiwei had come along, the Lu family held back their questions in front of the crowd and invited everyone inside first.
"Everyone make way—let the car through!" Lu Fang called out, urging the villagers to clear a path.
The villagers loved a good spectacle but knew better than to overstep. Besides, with Lu Hang’s success and Lin Nannan’s accomplishments, no one wanted to offend them, so everyone cooperated.
Once they were home, Lu Fang said a few words to disperse the curious onlookers before closing the courtyard gate.
When he turned back, he saw his eldest granddaughter already in his mother’s arms—he, the grandfather, hadn’t even gotten to hold her yet.
