Chapter 137
by 夏至三候Chapter 137
Unshaken Spirit
Zhang Dabang, absorbed in watching, didn’t notice someone had approached him until he casually remarked, "This harvester's power and speed are way off—nothing like any harvester I've ever seen before..."
Zhang Dabang wasn't exactly a harvester expert, but he knew one thing: for any machine, speed was everything, whether it was a harvester or a firearm.
Now, hearing Hu Yunlai’s exclamation and seeing the villagers’ astonishment, he realized Lin Nannan must have totally transformed the harvester.
Lin Nannan couldn’t care less about the chatter. She had adjusted the harvester to its optimal state, modifying the previously clunky and inflexible functions until the machine could pivot left, right, forward, and backward as nimble as a toy—lighter in weight yet more efficient than before.
"Is that really our harvester?" The villagers couldn’t help but marvel at the speed and reduced harvesting time.
"It looks like ours from the outside, but it’s nothing like last year’s. It’s as if it’s been replaced—could there be some mistake?"
As the villagers buzzed with speculation, Lin Nannan was riding high. Unbeknownst to her, she had not only caught Zhang Dabang’s attention but also got Lu Hang to have Lu Ming wheel him out into the crowd to watch the spectacle.
Listening to the villagers’ confused murmurs, Lu Hang couldn’t help but chuckle. His wife had them completely stumped. After all, many had believed she was truly foolish—but how could a fool operate a harvester? And if she wasn’t foolish, why had she endured years of being called a fool?
The more they debated, the less sense it made, and the villagers showed no signs of stopping.
Lu Hang had originally intended to quietly observe their reactions and share the amusing details with Nan Nan later. But then he spotted Zhang Dabang in the crowd—his eagle-eyed and squared-shouldered presence unmistakable—and immediately signaled Lu Ming to wheel him over.
Having been close with Zhang Shengguo, Lu Hang recognized Zhang Dabang’s identity and understood his purpose for being here: Lin Nannan’s firearm expertise.
"Uncle Zhang!" he called out as he approached, prompting Zhang Dabang to glance over. His eyes lit up with recognition, followed by surprise.
Though his son had mentioned Lu Hang’s condition, Zhang Dabang had assumed a paralyzed man couldn’t possibly retain much vigor. Yet the Lu Hang before him radiated resilience—not a hint of defeat, his spirit undiminished, as if his injury was just a bump in the road.
"What are you doing out here?" Zhang Dabang asked.
Lu Hang smiled, his gaze drifting toward the woman who had captured everyone’s attention. "At a time like this, even if I can’t help much, I still want to share in her triumph."
Zhang Dabang nodded in understanding, clapping him on the shoulder. "She's something else!"
Hu Yunlai, overhearing their conversation and recalling the rumors, quickly realized who the newcomer was. His eyes widened slightly.
Since his arrival, the villagers' story was everywhere.
*A cripple and a fool—a perfect match.*
But gradually, the tone had shifted. One incident after another had turned their pity into envy for Lu Hang.
Hu Yunlai had seen them before and could only shake his head—what a waste, such a good couple before Lu Hang got hurt.
Now, face to face with Lu Hang, he was struck by the man’s raw grit. Despite his paralysis, Lu Hang remained unbroken, his spirit just as fierce as any man on his feet.
