    Chapter 41

    I’ll Dote on You

The original Lin Nannan survived not because the Lins were kind-hearted, but because she relied on herself and the goodwill of kind people in this compassionate village to grow up resilient. Sadly, she ultimately died of a high fever.

If she hadn't been wary of Lin Qingqing and had willingly married Lu Hang, perhaps her fate could have changed. With the Lu family's protection, she might have lived a peaceful life.

She knew the original Lin Nannan disliked the Lins, which was why she refused to take their bullying. If the Lu family had treated the original Lin Nannan well, she would have listened to them, helped with chores, and lived a relatively stable life.

Unfortunately, everything ended due to the Lins’ negligence. Though she couldn’t avenge the original Lin Nannan, she could at least make the Lins feel some pain.

“My mom is amazing. If you don’t like them, don’t force yourself. If anything bothers you, just tell Mom and Dad, okay?” He knew she was strong, but subconsciously still saw her as someone who needed protection—someone he wouldn’t allow others to bully.

    “Mhm!” She nodded firmly.

At dinner, Lin Nannan finally got to eat the braised pork ribs she had been craving.

Perhaps because they had just gotten money from the Lins, Grandma Lu made the ribs glazed with savory juices, earning praise from everyone.

It was Lin Nannan’s first time tasting braised ribs, and she was instantly hooked, devouring her food like a dedicated foodie.

In fact, she wasn’t the only one—Lu Yuan and the others weren’t far behind, making the adults laugh.

“Eat slowly. If you choke, drink some soup!” Grandma Lu, thinking of the Lins’ actions, couldn’t help but feel sorry for Lin Nannan and personally ladled her a bowl of soup.

“Thank you, Grandma!” Lin Nannan accepted it with a bright smile.

Grandma Lu couldn’t help but smile back, making Lu Yuan feel a bit jealous.

“Grandma doesn’t dote on me anymore!”

“You’re grown up now, and you’re still acting jealous of your sister-in-law? Didn’t you see how the Lins behaved?” Zhang Xiaofeng gave her daughter a light tap on the forehead in exasperation.

Lin Nannan tilted her head and glanced at Lu Yuan, then took a rib from her own portion and placed it in Lu Yuan’s bowl. With a grin, she said, “I’ll dote on you!”

Well, Lu Yuan, who had only been joking, was instantly flustered by her sister-in-law’s gesture, her face turning red.

“Sis, I was just kidding!” Lu Yuan stared at the rib in her bowl, unsure whether to eat it or not, almost tearing up.

Lin Nannan quite liked Lu Yuan. Seeing her flustered, she smiled and urged, “Go ahead and eat!”

“Your sister-in-law is so good to you. Go on, eat!” Zhang Xiaofeng was genuinely surprised. It was obvious how much Lin Nannan loved the ribs—she had been eating them so intently she never looked up since they were served.

Yet now, she had given up part of her share out of concern for A Yuan. Such a sweet girl deserved to be cherished.

“By the way,” Grandma Lu said as dinner was ending, turning to Lin Nannan, who was finishing her soup, “Nan Nan, your father-in-law sprained his ankle. Though it’s been set, he still needs a few days to rest. So for now, you’ll need to look after A Hang.”

Lin Nannan looked up at her and said, “It's fine with me, as long as Lu Hang agrees!”

The Lu family looked at each other before turning to Lu Fang, waiting for him to persuade his son.

The reason they didn’t ask Zhang Xiaofeng was that if Lu Hang became stubborn, she might end up wanting to hit him.

    ...

Lu Fang knew better—his son cared about Lin Nannan; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so protective.

He knew the idea to get money from the Lins had definitely come from his son.

Lin Nannan would have just punched them directly…
