Chapter 33
byChapter 33
My Wife Has My Back
"This is my wife, Lin Nannan!" Lu Hang introduced her as his wife for the first time.
"Oh, right! What a memory I've got!" Zhang Shengguo smacked his forehead in frustration. "I heard the person who called that day was your wife, but I completely forgot about it." He turned to Lin Nannan and said apologetically, "Little sister, my apologies. A Hang, did you leave the stuff in the car? Go quickly and bring everything over. We specially brought these to celebrate your marriage."
"You guys aren't exactly rolling in money either. Why spend unnecessarily?" Lu Hang said helplessly.
"Big celebrations are worth spending on," Zhang Shengguo retorted, urging A Hang to hurry.
A Hang scratched his short hair, looking kinda stuck. "I can’t carry everything alone!"
"Nan Nan, tell A Ming to go with him," Lu Hang suggested.
Lin Nannan gave him a deep look, then just gave a nod and an "Uh-huh," before turning to leave.
With two people gone, the room suddenly felt way emptier.
"Your wife's something else. If it weren’t for her this time, who knows what kind of conspiracy was hidden beneath all those rumors?" Zhang Shengguo said, still sounding kinda spooked.
Without Lin Nannan, the rumors would’ve gone completely wild, and even if Lu Hang lay at home, he wouldn’t have been spared. Once his will was worn down, that would've been it for him.
If something happened to Lu Hang, it would be a total disaster for the Lu family, with Grandma Lu being the first to collapse.
You can just imagine how severe the consequences would have been.
Lu Hang cracked a little smile as he murmured, "My wife has my back."
This slightly boastful remark left Zhang Shengguo and the others momentarily speechless, almost killing the conversation.
"You little shit!" Zhang Shengguo laughed, relieved to see Lu Hang in good spirits despite his severe injuries.
Lu Hang chuckled before getting back on track. "Commander, that previous mission was no walk in the park. It needs a thorough investigation."
"I know," Zhang Shengguo said after taking a deep breath.
There was a traitor involved, which was why Lu Hang had been severely injured and his identity exposed.
"A Hang, even though Han Li has been arrested, your situation..." He hesitated, stuck between sending someone to watch over Lu Hang—which wasn’t a long-term solution—and leaving the Lu family vulnerable to danger.
Lu Hang understood his concern and gently declined. "Han Li came to the village over thirty years ago. He must have prepared thoroughly, which is why no one suspected him. Now that he’s been caught, have the village chief do a full sweep and keep an eye out for strangers. There shouldn’t be any major issues."
Besides, the only way to truly prevent future threats was to take out everyone connected.
"Those people nurse grudges like crazy. They probably won’t give up on revenge," Zhang Shengguo said, voicing his greatest worry.
Lu Hang sighed. "In my current state, they can only wait. After all, there's always someone at my place."
Attacking a paralyzed man like him would be easy, but the Lu home was located in the busiest part of the village, with folks in and out all day. It would be impossible to act without being noticed.
"Besides, living like this is worse than dying. Rather than killing me, they’d probably prefer to let me suffer like this," Lu Hang said with bitter self-awareness.
Zhang Shengguo sighed, unsure of how to respond. Whatever he said seemed inadequate.
Arranging for someone to care for Lu Hang or making other arrangements didn’t seem appropriate either. After all, Lu Hang’s condition had no recovery period—he would remain like this indefinitely, which would wear anyone out.
