Chapter 528
by 夏至三候Chapter 528
Accident
The Lin family's elderly patriarch and others were out of danger after emergency treatment. After several hectic days, it gave the impression that her elder brother had been admitted to the hospital a few days earlier, so the timing of their admissions didn’t coincide. As a result, no one suspected her brother was involved.
They had no way out. Her brother wanted to send her away, but she refused.
Perhaps out of refusal to admit defeat or a desire to take a gamble, she boldly showed herself in front of Lin Nannan. She even used her own people to stage a rescue, hoping that Lin Nannan would feel sympathy for having risked her life and offer some medicine that could save lives for her or her brother. But she never expected Lin Nannan to be different from others.
What others considered kindness that couldn’t be measured in money, she insisted on putting a price on—so generous and meticulous that no one could find fault.
From the beginning, she had given Lin Nannan the impression of an innocent and adorable little sister. So, no matter how anxious she felt inside, she didn’t dare let it show, afraid that Lin Nannan would grow suspicious and she’d lose her chance to get close.
All the compromises and grievances seemed worth it, at least Lin Nannan didn’t resist her approach...
Thinking of this, she took a deep breath, feeling that everything would be decided today.
"What are you doing here?" Lin Kangnian frowned and asked when he saw Jiang Xiaomeng standing at the door.
Lin Kangnian’s gaze was too piercing, making Jiang Xiaomeng feel guilty. She quickly explained, "Nan Nan is alone inside today. I was afraid she might need help, so I stood by the door to make it easier for her to call me."
It was unclear whether Lin Kangnian believed her or not. He only coldly stated, "You’re not needed here. Don’t stand by the door!"
"Okay!" Jiang Xiaomeng complied and moved away but didn’t leave.
Lin Kangnian frowned but didn’t say more. Instead, he knocked and entered the room.
Watching the closed door, Jiang Xiaomeng resisted the urge to approach. She restrained herself, knowing there were people nearby—this place wasn’t as simple as it seemed.
……
The door to the hospital room remained closed, and it was unclear what was going on inside. But half an hour after Lin Kangnian entered, Zheng Min hurried down the corridor. Not even noticing Jiang Xiaomeng standing nearby, she pushed open the door to the room and, without checking what was happening inside, shouted, "Brother, Nan Nan, there’s been an accident! Grandma and the others found out about Lu Hang’s accident and were on their way to see him. They got into a car accident on the road."
"What?" Lin Nannan and Lin Kangnian exchanged a look, immediately rising, their expressions changing.
"How is Grandma?" Lin Nannan asked worriedly.
Zheng Min shook her head. "Grandma passed out from the shock. Mom is with her. Second Brother and Third Brother aren’t here..."
Lin Kangnian thought of something and said to Lin Nannan, "I’ll go see. You stay here!"
"Okay!" Lin Nannan nodded. "Let me know as soon as you have any updates!"
Lin Kangnian and Zheng Min hurried away, ignoring Jiang Xiaomeng’s attempt to wave or greet them.
She slowly moved closer to the door, glancing at the still-unconscious Lu Hang before turning to Lin Nannan, who was pacing worriedly in the room. Concerned, she asked, "Nan Nan, what’s wrong?"
Seeing her, Lin Nannan’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. She then handed her partially eaten meal to Jiang Xiaomeng and said, "Sorry, something came up and I couldn’t finish. I might be busy this afternoon, and since no one else is here, you don’t need to come by."
Jiang Xiaomeng felt anxious but didn’t show it. Instead, she said considerately, "It’s fine. I’ll have something ready just in case you’re here and get hungry!"
Lin Nannan wanted to politely refuse but didn’t have time to say anything before hurried footsteps echoed down the hall. Jiang Xiaomeng’s heart leaped—she felt the footsteps were heading their way.
Sure enough, moments later, the footsteps stopped at the door. Lin Shuang rushed in, out of breath, and said, "Sis, it’s bad—A Yuan is in trouble."
"What happened?" Lin Nannan demanded sternly.
"This morning, A Yuan said she was going out to buy food. I didn’t think much of it, but not long after she left, someone from the guesthouse came to tell me A Yuan had been taken by someone. I panicked and called home, but the housekeeper said no one was there. I couldn’t find anyone to help, so I came to you."
Upon hearing this, Lin Nannan was really upset.
"How could there be no one? Isn't Du Du there either?" she asked anxiously, her face turning pale.
Without hesitation, Lin Shuang replied, "Yes, all the children were taken out. No one’s home!"
Lin Nannan suddenly thought of something and, not worrying about anyone else, said to Lin Shuang, "Go make a call now and contact your second and third older brothers. Grandma found out about Lu Hang's accident and got into a car accident on her way here. Zheng Min was just here—Big Brother already went over. As for A Yuan, I'll take A Da to check it out."
She quickly made arrangements and, after receiving a nod from Lin Shuang, immediately turned to Jiang Xiaomeng and said, "Lu Hang has been given medication and shouldn’t be disturbed. Xiaomeng, you should go home for now. If needed, I’ll have someone update you."
Jiang Xiaomeng nodded and said, "Alright, let me clean up these food containers first!"
She quickly packed up the items and headed toward the door. After she left, Lin Nannan and Lin Shuang stepped out. Before leaving, Lin Nannan closed the hospital room door and specifically instructed the nurse on duty before hurrying off.
Hidden in the shadows, Jiang Xiaomeng waited a moment after they left before stepping out.
She knew that aside from the unconscious Lu Hang, no one else was in the hospital room. She deliberately walked straight toward the room but was stopped before she could enter.
"What are you doing? The patient must not be disturbed. You can’t go in!" the nurse said dutifully, blocking her way.
Jiang Xiaomeng showed her the cleaned lunch box and explained, "I brought them food, but they had to leave suddenly. I left the lid inside—I just need to grab it quickly so it doesn’t delay their lunch later."
The nurse hesitated, unsure whether to let her in.
"Oh come on, I’m in and out of here every day—don’t you know me?" Jiang Xiaomeng said, trying to sound familiar. "I’ll only be a moment. Sister Nannan won’t mind, and I won’t make a sound, I promise."
While the nurse was still hesitating, someone called out to her from down the hall, distracting her. Busy, she finally said to Jiang Xiaomeng, "Be quick. Grab what you need and leave immediately, and make sure to close the door behind you, understood?"
"Understood, don’t worry!" Jiang Xiaomeng replied gratefully.
With someone calling for her, the nurse didn’t overthink it and walked away. Without a second thought, Jiang Xiaomeng pushed the door open and entered...
Only Lu Hang was inside the room. Jiang Xiaomeng’s heart pounded as she looked at him, overwhelmed with excitement. The mission she had long awaited was about to be completed—she could hardly contain her emotions.
Carefully, she pulled a prepared syringe from her pocket. Seeing that Lu Hang showed no signs of movement, she acted swiftly, not daring to delay, afraid that something might go wrong.
