Chapter 654
by 夏至三候Chapter 654
Where Did You Get Hurt?
He knew exactly how strong his wife was. Since she didn't recognize him, he didn't dare mess with her recklessly, especially since he couldn't fight back. To avoid getting beaten, he held back from touching them.
Lin Nannan was stunned, then said with a mix of amusement and exasperation, "Are you afraid of pain?"
"Like I could forget how strong you are!" Lu Hang replied, sitting on the edge of the bed. Gazing at their round-faced daughter, who was sound asleep with her eyes closed, he asked softly, his heart melting, "When did you get back?"
"We got back a few days ago. I wanted to surprise you, but you weren't here!" Lin Nannan said, sounding disappointed.
Lu Hang reached out and held her slightly rough hand, unable to hide his happiness. His eyes brimmed with laughter as he murmured, "I never would've guessed you'd come back like this. I thought I’d have to wait a few more years."
Lin Nannan let him hold her hand and said with some irritation, "You might be willing to wait a few years, but I’m not. According to my plan, everything should’ve been done within a year, but they couldn’t keep up with my pace…"
Speaking of this, Lin Nannan was truly worn out.
Knowing how driven his wife was, Lu Hang avoided the topic and comforted her instead. "You’ve worked hard, balancing work and taking care of Du Du. You’ve done a great job with her—she’s grown so much taller. I wonder if she even recognizes me as her dad!"
Successfully changing the subject, Lin Nannan glanced at their sleeping daughter and said softly, "Actually, it wasn’t too bad. Everyone at the base helped take care of Du Du. Whenever they had time, they’d lend a hand. She’s everyone's little darling. You have no idea how much they dote on her. This time, I almost couldn’t bring her back."
"Ha, my daughter is amazing—people love her wherever she goes!" Lu Hang said proudly.
He wasn’t exaggerating; it was the truth.
Whether at the Lin family or the Lu family, Lu Dudu was always doted on. At the base, she was the only child there—who wouldn’t adore her?
His proud expression made it seem as if he were the one everyone loved, which Lin Nannan found amusing.
"Alright, stop talking nonsense. Go wash up. It’s so late—aren’t you tired?" Lin Nannan asked.
She had spent the day playing wildly with Lu Dudu and was utterly exhausted. Otherwise, she would’ve woken up the moment Lu Hang entered.
"Okay, I’ll go now!" Lu Hang stood up immediately. "If you’re tired, go ahead and sleep."
Already wide awake, Lin Nannan waved at him, urging him to hurry.
With limited conditions, Lu Hang cleaned up using cold water, washed his hair, and changed his clothes before returning. Seeing him come in with wet hair and damp clothes, Lin Nannan urged, "Bring a towel over. I’ll dry your hair for you."
Lu Hang complied right away, fetching a towel and handing it to her before sitting on the edge of the bed to make it easier for her to dry his hair.
Lin Nannan got up, placed the towel on his head, and started drying it while chatting with him.
"Why did this mission take so long? Was it dangerous?"
Lu Hang hesitated briefly, choosing his words carefully. "It was okay. No one died."
His words reminded Lin Nannan of something. She stopped what she was doing and looked at his head. "You weren’t hurt, were you?"
This time, Lu Hang couldn’t answer.
"Where are you hurt?" Lin Nannan couldn't remain sitting any longer. She got out of bed and looked him straight in the eye.
Lu Hang didn’t hide it—he knew he couldn’t.
Having been apart for so long, if they became intimate, she would inevitably see his injuries and get angry. So he proactively lifted his shirt and confessed, "I got scraped on the back. It’s not too serious—just needs some cream..."
