Chapter 374
by 夏至三候Chapter 374
Tagging Along for the Fun
Lu Hang poured flour into a bowl and added water, stirring as he spoke. "If we can't repay with something homemade, then we'll give fresh meat instead. When we have time, we’ll go hunt a wild boar in the mountains. That ought to cover it. Then we can all enjoy a feast—nothing brings people closer than that."
He’d originally figured Nan Nan wouldn’t be into this sort of thing, so he never considered involving her. But now that the other wives had accepted her and she seemed to enjoy it, he didn’t want her worrying over such small matters.
"Can I go too?" she asked eagerly.
Lu Hang cut her a sharp look. "What did you just say? Try saying it again."
That razor-sharp glare had Lin Nannan ducking her head. "Fine, I won’t go, okay?"
That puppy-dog look of hers turned him to mush. He was hopelessly whipped—no fighting it.
"I’ll take you when you’re better. For now, don’t even think about it," he relented with a sigh.
Lin Nannan perked right up. "You can’t take it back!"
"Of course not."
As they chatted, waiting for dinner, the atmosphere was warm and cozy.
Those meat sauce noodles had Lin Nannan sold. She piled on the compliments thick. "These noodles are amazing, A Hang! Is there anything you don’t rock at? Even making noodles from scratch!"
Her admiration made Lu Hang’s eyes crinkle with barely contained glee.
"What, the sauce carrying my mediocre noodles?" he needled.
"Sauce aside, these noodles could stand alone!" she insisted firmly.
Lu Hang chuckled. "If you like it, eat more."
Lin Nannan put away two heaping bowls, then realized they’d finished the entire pot. "Guess we’d better start penny-pinching or we’ll starve!"
Lu Hang barked a laugh. "No need to worry about that."
What kind of man couldn’t keep his wife fed?
Lin Nannan went quiet—that looming money-drain of a project flashing through her mind...
"You actually think I’d starve you?" Lu Hang asked, surprised by her sudden quietness.
"Not really. I just feel better with more savings," she replied with a smile.
Remembering how his family had once sold grain to save money for his medical treatment, Lu Hang nodded. "Can’t argue with that—cash cushions life’s punches. So, wife, do whatever you want. Strike it rich? I’m your trophy husband. If not, come back—I’ll take care of you."
Lin Nannan snorted. "My sugar mama era? Aren’t you afraid people will laugh at you?"
"Screw ’em. I hit the wife lottery," he shot back.
By all rights, someone as capable as Lin Nannan would never have married someone like him.
And as for her shine, he would only support her—never hold her back.
Her wins were his wins. Easy math.
Not every guy bags a superstar.
Lin Nannan laughed at his bold claim. "Alright, when I succeed, I'll treat you to good food and drinks—I definitely won’t let you go hungry!"
"Mhm, I'll be waiting then!"
Watching Lu Heng busily washing dishes and tidying up, Lin Nannan realized that compared to him watching her with a smile, she much preferred having him by her side when she was being playful...
As days passed, Lin Nannan was going stir-crazy from all the resting during her recovery—until Lu Jianan’s words finally saved her.
"You're good now. As long as you avoid intense fights, normal stuff should be fine," he said with a smile.
Lin Nannan sighed in relief and turned to the still-concerned Lu Heng. "See? I’m all good now!"
