Chapter 685
by 夏至三候Chapter 685
Arresting Yu Ying
Everyone looked at Lin Nannan, waiting for her decision.
"If you have no objections, then neither do I!" Lin Nannan said.
At most, it would mean staying at the guesthouse, which wasn’t much trouble.
Lu Fang and his wife rarely had the chance to visit, so of course they would stay for a few days. Thus, the matter was settled.
…
On the other side, due to Lu Hang’s persistence, the higher-ups finally relented and agreed to arrest Yu Ying for interrogation.
Previously, the response from above was to avoid alerting the enemy, as Yu Ying was already under their control and would not be allowed to escape.
But Lu Hang disagreed. He believed that arresting Yu Yao would not affect the capture of Yu Ying in any way.
If not for sheer luck, Dudu’s whereabouts would still be unknown. Therefore, he was unwilling to let Yu Ying go, even temporarily. After his persistent efforts, the higher-ups finally made a decision and granted his request.
His actions were not driven by personal vendetta but by the fact that Yu Ying held little value.
If Yu Yao could scheme against his own daughter, how much importance could he possibly place on Yu Ying?
Yu Ying’s instigation of Zhang Yao was entirely her own impulsive idea, something Yu Yao knew nothing about.
It was for this reason that Lu Hang insisted on arresting her. After all, Yu Ying rarely went out, and no one would know if she or Zhang Yao had encountered trouble. As long as useful information could be extracted from them, their plan would succeed.
Zhang Yao was on the verge of breaking, so keeping Yu Ying served no purpose. She couldn’t be used to threaten Yu Yao anyway.
Lu Hang personally led the team to arrest Yu Ying. When they knocked on the door, Yu Ying called out from inside. A young soldier responded, directly instructing her to open the door. Yu Ying didn’t think much of it, but the moment she opened the door and met Lu Hang’s cold, stern eyes, she guiltily stepped back several paces and tried to shut the door, only to be stopped.
"What are you doing?" she shouted, her tone fierce but her courage faltering.
"Don’t you know what you’ve done?" Lu Hang countered without answering her question.
Yu Ying was panicked, her hands clenched so tightly that they nearly drew blood, yet she felt no pain.
She stared at Lu Hang’s expressionless face, biting down hard on the soft flesh inside her mouth. Only when the pain jolted her awake did she insist, "I don’t know what you’re talking about!"
"Since you don’t know, we’ll take you in for interrogation. You took medicine from the pharmaceutical factory—what did you do with it, and where did you use it?" Lu Hang deliberately avoided mentioning Zhang Yao’s arrest, hoping she would crack under pressure and reveal everything.
Upon hearing that she was to be arrested, Yu Ying shook her head vigorously like a rattle-drum, resisting, "No! I haven’t done anything wrong! You can’t arrest me!"
They had come this far; there was no way they would let her go. Lu Hang and his team ignored her protests, directly apprehending her and escorting her out. The scene drew pointed fingers and whispers from nearby residents. Some, unaware of what had happened, quietly inquired about the situation…
After Zhang Yao targeted Lu Dudu, Yu Ying had stayed home to avoid suspicion, completely unaware of the events outside. She assumed everything had gone smoothly—that Zhang Yao had successfully taken Lu Dudu away. Now, even if Lu Hang was furious enough to want to kill her, without concrete evidence, what could he possibly do?
Outwardly, she resisted, but inwardly she was delighted, thinking how wonderful it would be to see Lin Nannan weeping in despair. It was a pity Lin Nannan wasn’t there.
"It’s her—she colluded with someone else to drug Commander Lu’s daughter."
Those who were unaware had just returned from the pharmaceutical factory. They had been busy there all day and knew nothing of the outside events, so they were curious about what had happened to Yu Ying.
Upon learning the details, everyone was shocked.
"Adult conflicts have nothing to do with young children. How cruel—to actually target a child!"
"Exactly, she's ruthless and vicious. I said from the start that Yu Ying is no good. See, I was right," someone remarked.
Some sighed, others grew anxious or worried, and soon people began asking about the child.
"The child is fine, thank goodness she's clever. She was taken all the way to the train station, almost put on a train, but she managed to escape on her own. Then she ran into Commander Lu’s parents, who were there to deliver something to Commander Lu and the others. Being family, they recognized her at a glance, so the child was protected by her grandfather. Zhang Yao was caught too, and now they’ve come for Yu Ying." Someone who knew the general details filled everyone in, which immediately sparked all sorts of discussions.
As the speaker talked, those nearby, eager for the latest news, kept quiet, so every word reached Yu Ying’s ears clearly, stunning her.
"Impossible," she snarled, the words hitting her hard. She had been smiling for a long time, only to learn that the plan had failed—the child wasn’t taken and had been found. Gnashing her teeth, she roared, "How could that be? The child was already taken away! How could they possibly find her?"
To ensure success, she had even instructed Zhang Yao to make the timing tight for the train departure, giving Lu Hang no time to react. Yet, it still failed. That idiot Zhang Yao—how could he mess up even after all that?
She was furious, almost driven mad.
One woman, who was already upset, spoke up. As military spouses, many of them had struggled to have children—some waiting years to conceive—so they cherished their kids deeply. The very thought of their own kids being snatched away was enough to drive them crazy, and they were furious with Yu Ying. When Yu Ying questioned them, one woman angrily retorted, hands on her hips, "How is it impossible? That child is smart! She made a fool out of Zhang Yao, then ran into her own grandfather. You think her grandfather would let his granddaughter be stolen right under his nose? No way! So not only was she found, she wasn’t hurt at all, and Zhang Yao was captured too."
Yu Ying thought about what she had asked Zhang Yao to do. If he couldn’t withstand the interrogation and exposed her, what would happen to her? The fear hit her, and her legs went weak.
"It has nothing to do with me! You can’t arrest me! I didn’t do it, it wasn't me..." She shook her head in denial, but no one took pity.
"Whether you did it or not will be investigated!" The person holding her refused to let her evade the issue, responding sternly as he pushed her forward. But Yu Ying struggled desperately, trying to break free...
"Lu Hang, I... I’m innocent! It has nothing to do with me! You can’t arrest me, please!" She begged Lu Hang through her tears.
Lu Hang gave her a cold glance, not even bothering to reply. He simply waved his hand, signaling for her to be taken away immediately...
The interrogation could wait. What he couldn’t stand was seeing Yu Ying smug. Locking her up would teach her fear and make her life miserable. Anyone who dared harm his daughter or scheme against his wife would not get away with it.
As for the soldier who had let Lin Nannan answer the phone, it was confirmed that he was innocent—he had been deceived.
In the end, only Yu Ying and Zhang Yao were found guilty. That, at least, was a relief.
