    Chapter 23

    Farming's Not Easy

Lin Nannan walked over and sat by the bed, slipping her hand under him to help him turn onto his side. "The others got scolded, and He Ye was taken away."

"Why was she taken away?" Lu Hang asked, confused.

"What? You got a problem with that?" Lin Nannan narrowed her eyes.

Lu Hang chuckled. "Of course not. It’s just that usually, for something like this, a scolding and warning would be enough. Why take her away? Did He Ye do something else?"

Her way of talking about her had changed ever since He Ye had tried to smear her reputation.

"I don’t know!" Lin Nannan patted his back firmly, her voice full of confusion. "The people from town questioned He Ye, and after hearing whatever she said, they took her away immediately."

Lu Hang felt her small hand firmly patting his back, his thoughts all tangled up, and he couldn't think straight.

"Do you think she has some secret identity?" Lin Nannan hesitated, recalling the kind of spies that might appear in this era while she was researching.

"Impossible!" Lu Hang replied without hesitation. "He Ye was born and raised in the village. There’s no way she has some other identity!"

"Then why was she arrested? Just for saying a few things about you?" She had originally planned to teach them a lesson after proving her point, but she hadn’t expected anyone to be taken away.

Lu Hang couldn’t figure it out, nor could he focus, as Lin Nannan kept rolling him back and forth. Though his body felt looser, his mind was a mess.

"If there’s nothing serious, she'll likely be let go after a couple of days. If she comes looking for trouble then, watch she doesn't push you around." He was still worried his wife might get messed with.

Once she had him lying flat, Lin Nannan grinned. "I'd welcome her coming to start something!"

That way, she could beat her up openly.

Lu Hang figured he was worrying for nothing.

"Nan Nan, come out for dinner!" Grandma Lu called from outside the door.

"Coming!" Lin Nannan replied, then looked at Lu Hang. "I’ll come back later to turn you again..."

Lu Hang didn’t refuse, knowing it wouldn’t make a difference anyway.

He still had to get used to Lin Nannan’s unpredictable ways.

    ……

The Lu family meals were casual, full of laughing and joking around.

Lin Nannan, who refused to let anything delay her meals, chewed on a cornbread bun while listening to the family gossip, thinking this was the good life.

She’d be even happier if they could get the fields in order faster.

Not wanting to lose any more time, she ate faster.

"Slow down. There’s more in the pot if you’re still hungry," Zhang Xiaofeng said, seeing her rush.

"I’ve had enough. I want to go check the fields first. We can't put it off any longer," she replied.

"But farming isn’t that simple!" Grandma Lu reminded her, wanting to warn her.

She knew Lin Nannan had never worked the fields when she was with the Lins, so she added the caution.

The Lins wanted Lin Nannan to work for free, but after she was no longer quite herself mentally, she took to wandering into the mountains and completely ignored the Lins, so she never experienced the hardships of farming.

"I know, first we'll till the land. I'm strong, it'll be done in two days," she said casually.

"I'll help my sister-in-law!" Lu Yuan immediately offered.

Lu Ming hesitated, "Should I join too?"

"Then all of you go and help. Bring the tools later!" Grandma Lu announced.

Now that she had help, Lin Nannan urged them, "Hurry up, before it gets dark."
