Chapter 488

Jiang Xiaomeng Gets Injured
Lin Nannan was somewhat taken aback, but she wasn’t the type to pry into others’ affairs. Besides, she had only crossed paths with her a few times, so it wasn’t her place to show concern. She simply offered some polite words and mentioned that she needed to go home to take care of her children.
"You have kids already, sis?" Jiang Xiaomeng said with a familiar tone, her eyes full of expectation. "Bet they take after you. They must be adorable!"
"Haha, you should go take care of your brother now. I’ll head back first!" Lin Nannan loved bragging about her daughter among close friends, but she wasn’t used to doing so with strangers.
Whether Jiang Xiaomeng genuinely had something to do or simply sensed her aloofness, she eventually said goodbye.
Lin Nannan didn’t give the encounter much thought, dismissing it as a mere coincidence.
However, she kept running into Jiang Xiaomeng several more times after that. Each time, the girl was either crying or being bullied, making her seem pretty pitiful.
Since it had nothing to do with her, Lin Nannan didn’t intervene or ask too many questions. After all, she could help in the short term but not for life. If the girl couldn’t stand up for herself, no one could truly help her.
But she never expected that she would become a target herself—all because she had made her wealth visible while shopping. On her way home, she was followed. Coincidentally, since both the elderly Mr. Lin and Lin Zhaoyou were being discharged from the hospital that day, she had asked A Da and A Jian to stay behind and help while she went home early to prepare meals. That was when she was targeted.
Being followed wasn’t a big deal in itself; she was even itching to teach those guys a lesson.
Just as she was about to take action, Jiang Xiaomeng suddenly appeared, got whacked pretty hard with a club, and passed out right in front of her.
Whether they didn’t want to escalate the situation or were afraid they might have killed Jiang Xiaomeng, the people surrounding them immediately scattered, leaving only the unconscious Jiang Xiaomeng lying on the ground...
Lin Nannan was annoyed but had no choice but to deal with the aftermath.
Jiang Xiaomeng had taken a solid hit. If things had gone slightly worse, she could’ve been left brain-damaged.
Fortunately, she just had a minor concussion and needed to rest lying down.
"Don’t do something so foolish next time. If something happened to you, what would your older brother do?" Lin Nannan said seriously after settling Jiang Xiaomeng.
Instead of being upset by the scolding, Jiang Xiaomeng endured her discomfort and gave a sweet smile. "I saw someone raising a stick to hit you, and I just acted without thinking and rushed over."
Lin Nannan didn’t know what to say about her actions. It wasn’t that she didn’t appreciate the gesture, but it was entirely unnecessary.
"You won’t be able to move around for the next couple of days. I’ll get someone to look after you, and I’ll also make sure your brother is looked after," Lin Nannan told her about the arrangements to put her at ease.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaomeng tried to sit up in a panic, but she got too dizzy and had to lie back down.
"Don’t move. Just lie still," Lin Nannan reassured her, seeing her pained expression. "For the next few days, just rest and avoid moving around too much. After all, you got hurt because of me."
"Sister, did I cause trouble for you?" Jiang Xiaomeng asked uneasily.
"Not at all. Don’t overthink it."
Whether it was Lin Nannan’s words that comforted her or not, Jiang Xiaomeng calmed down noticeably, and her mood improved visibly.
Though dizziness was uncomfortable, it didn’t stop her from talking. Even with her eyes closed, she kept chattering away, leaving Lin Nannan unsure how to respond. In the end, she asked a woman in the neighboring bed to keep an eye on Jiang Xiaomeng before she could make a getaway.
With both siblings hospitalized, she needed to arrange for two caregivers. Since Lin Nannan wasn’t familiar with the area, she directly asked the hospital staff to help find people, as she might not find the right people on her own.
