    Chapter 589

    Spoiling the Child

Seeing her grandmother nearby, Lu Dudu reached out her arms to be held. She didn’t like being confined to one place and, since she wasn’t steady on her feet yet, she preferred being carried around.

Zhang Xiaofeng picked up her granddaughter and asked Lu Fang, "How did it go? Did they agree?"

"Yes, five people plus me and A Zheng will be enough. You won’t need to go to the fields tomorrow," Lu Fang said.

Even if they didn’t work in the fields, they still had plenty to do—cooking meals for the several of them, washing, and cleaning kept them busy. The only upside was that they could now keep an eye on Du Du.

The matter passed quickly, was resolved, and soon forgotten in the Lu household, so much so that when Lu Hang returned, he didn’t pick up on anything unusual. He just figured they had hired extra help because the harvest was larger than expected and the family couldn’t manage it all on their own.

"A Hang," Zhang Xiaofeng called out to Lu Hang, who was playing with his daughter riding on his shoulders. "When you see Nan Nan, ask what she wants to do with this grain. She probably has other plans for them!"

Noticing the still-undried grains and knowing they were from Lin Nannan’s dealings with Mr. Hu, Lu Hang nodded and said, "I understand. When I go back tomorrow, I’ll get Yin Xu to ask her."

"You’re staying at home tonight?" Zhang Xiaofeng asked in surprise.

"Yeah, it’s not busy tonight, so I won’t go back," Lu Hang replied.

Watching Du Du having a blast riding on her father’s head, Zhang Xiaofeng asked, "Will you take care of her tonight?"

"Mhm, you get some rest tonight. I’ll look after her!" Lu Hang said.

Knowing he doted on his daughter, Zhang Xiaofeng didn’t object. She was confident Lu Hang could take good care of the child.

Though others saw Lu Hang as somewhat distant, he went all out spoiling his child. Du Du, daring, was thrilled to be sitting on her father’s shoulders, laughing joyfully. Still, the height made her a little nervous, so she clung tightly to her father’s hair, turning Lu Hang into a different person. Even Grandma Lu couldn’t help but sigh at the sight.

"They say you only spoil your own. A Hang was always good to A Yuan, but his stern demeanor made her afraid of him, which is why A Yuan was closer to A Ming. Now look at him—he’s spoiling Du Du rotten."

Zhang Xiaofeng chuckled softly. "It’s not that he was unkind to A Yuan; he just didn’t know how to connect with her. Plus, he was busy and didn’t have much time to spend with her. But after becoming a father, he’s picked up a lot naturally."

"If you ask me, it’s Nan Nan who changed him the most. Who would’ve thought that the man who once refused to get married would now cherish his wife and kid so much?" Pan Xiaoping had plenty to say about the past.

Back before the incident, when the family tried to arrange a marriage for him, Lu Hang had firmly refused. It was only after Grandma Lu and the others insisted that he reluctantly agreed to the match with the Lin family. Little did anyone expect so many twists and turns would follow, culminating in a change of brides that ultimately softened Lu Hang completely.

If someone had told her back then that Lu Hang would change so much, she would’ve sooner believed the sun would rise in the west.

Now, though, she just wanted to tell Lu Hang not to spoil the child too much.

"But that’s because Nan Nan is such a good person. Not every daughter-in-law is as capable as her!" Grandma Lu remained steadfast in her support of her granddaughter-in-law.

Pan Xiaoping laughed. "Sis, Mom says A Hang is so caring, but I think Mom treats Nan Nan the best. I’m almost a little jealous."

"How old are you, getting jealous of your niece-in-law?" Zhang Xiaofeng said, both amused and exasperated.

"Well, with my mother-in-law being so protective of her, isn’t it natural for me to feel a little envious?" Pan Xiaoping teased.
