Chapter 449
by 夏至三候Chapter 449
Arrival in the Capital
Lin Nannan was well aware. She gazed at her daughter babbling away and remained silent for a long while before saying, "But I can't hide forever. That wouldn't be fair to the child!"
Lu Hang understood as well.
He couldn’t keep Lin Nannan stuck at the military base for the rest of her life...
"I’ll report it first, then make arrangements before you take the child there," he said softly.
Though reluctant, staying here indefinitely wasn’t a long-term solution.
Lin Nannan murmured an "Mm" and added, "Once A Yuan’s matter is resolved, I’ll come back!"
Kids need both parents, and besides, she didn’t want to leave Lu Hang—she just hated being cooped up all the time.
Moreover, since she had been pregnant and given birth, people outside probably knew anyway. They wouldn’t suspect she had left the base just months after childbirth, which was another reason she wanted to go out.
Lin Nannan’s trip to the capital immediately caused quite a stir—not just locally, but also in the capital. The welcoming party included not only the Lin family but also Zhang Shengguo, who they hadn’t laid eyes on forever.
Lu Hang personally escorted them to the train station, fretting over them nonstop until his daughter nodded off in her mom’s arms. Only after Lin Nannan promised again and again to call him the minute she got there did he finally step off the train, lingering until the train was out of sight.
For Lu Dudu, as long as her mother was around and her belly was full, she was happy anywhere.
To ensure the child’s comfort, their compartment was kept peaceful, with only Lin Nannan, her daughter, and their escorts present.
The night passed peacefully, with Lu Dudu sleeping soundly, undisturbed by occasional noises—a weight off everyone’s shoulders, who couldn’t help but praise her good behavior.
Upon arriving at the station, Lin Kangnian and Zhao Zhi were already waiting, along with Zhang Shengguo, who they hadn’t laid eyes on forever.
"Finally, you’re here! You have no idea—A Hang was blowing up my phone early this morning, worried I’d miss you!" Zhang Shengguo greeted Lin Nannan before immediately complaining, making her laugh.
Her laughter was echoed by Lu Dudu’s cheerful giggles, instantly drawing everyone’s attention—especially Zhao Zhi’s. The sight of the chubby, pinchable cheeks and all baby made her swoop in and snatch her up without hesitation.
"Is this Du Du? She’s absolutely adorable! She doesn’t look like a four-month-old at all—more like six months!" Zhao Zhi kissed her cheek and praised.
While other babies that age just lie there, listless, Du Du was all wiggles and giggles, full of energy. Her healthy chunkiness made her impossible to ignore.
"Hey, credit where it’s due—it’s all thanks to the generous supplies you sent. She eats well, so of course she grows!" Lin Nannan said with a smile.
Zhao Zhi disagreed. "We feed all the kids the same chow, but none are like Du Du. Clearly, you’ve done an excellent job raising her!"
"Du Du, I’m your big uncle!" Lin Kangnian leaned in to greet the baby in his wife’s arms.
The little one was just so darn captivating—her big eyes staring at you made it impossible not to talk to her.
Unable to hold the baby or squeeze into the circle, Zhang Shengguo had no choice but to remind them, "Let’s not stand around like sitting ducks. Let’s continue this back home!"
"Right, right, let’s head back first. Grandma and Grandpa are waiting!" Lin Kangnian remembered his task and turned to Lin Nannan. "We’ve already prepared a place for you at home. Since Du Du is still young, if you’re busy, there’s a whole village at home to spoil her rotten. What do you think?"
