Chapter 766

The Struggle
When he said this, tears slid from Lin Nannan’s eyes. This change made Lu Hang’s heart race, and he almost blurted out a shout. But realizing the timing wasn’t right, he bit back the words, reached out to wipe her tears, and continued speaking to her…
In the past, even a single tear from Lin Nannan would make Lu Hang’s heart ache. But now, he only wished she would cry more because of his words, hoping it would bring her closer to consciousness.
Crying meant she had awareness, that she understood what he was saying. So he wanted to evoke stronger emotions from her—enough to make her wake up and tell him she was okay, that he didn’t need to cry or worry for her anymore.
“If you don’t wake up soon, Du Du will think you’ve abandoned her. Do you know she believes we’ve both given up on her? Can you bear to see her so heartbroken and crying? Today, she cried until her voice grew hoarse, and she was terrified by your unresponsiveness. She’s witnessed death before, hasn’t she? My love, our child is scared, and so am I. Please, I’m begging you, wake up soon!” He pleaded desperately by her ear, his voice filled with such sorrow that it filled the quiet room, each word aching with pain.
To Lin Nannan, Lu Hang’s mournful pleas felt like needles pricking her heart. She could hear him but couldn’t respond.
At first, she hadn’t been aware of anything. It felt as though her consciousness had crossed time and space, returning to her own planet, where she watched like a movie the ripple effects of the knowledge she had transmitted. She even saw the first child born safely—a lovely little girl with a round head and thick hair. The baby’s first cry touched off nationwide celebrations, bringing hope for life.
From initial joy, she gradually felt helpless. She didn’t want to witness these scenes, didn’t want to remain trapped in them.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when the images finally faded from her mind. She felt lost in a thick fog, unable to find her way out. Though she knew Lu Hang had given her medicine, she still couldn’t respond, yet her mind felt clearer than before…
What finally drew a response from her were the cries of Lu Dudu and Lu Hang’s heartfelt confessions.
The weeping of father and daughter broke her heart.
Especially Lu Hang—the man who hadn’t bowed even when paralyzed was now crying because of her unconscious state, weeping so despairingly that all she wanted was to break through the darkness and wake up.
But she hadn’t anticipated that the consequence of exhausting her spiritual energy would be this deep coma—a depletion that couldn’t be cured by the medicine of this world. Fortunately, Lu Hang was clever enough to give her the medicine she had prepared, which contained a restorative solution. That was why she had regained some awareness; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to feel anything at all.
Yet, even with her senses returning, she still couldn’t open her eyes. Her head throbbed with pain, and her entire body felt unbearably uncomfortable. Trapped and powerless, she remained as still as if still comatose. In the end, all she could do was weep to express her sorrow…
But Lu Hang, who usually comforted her when she cried, didn’t soothe her this time. Instead, he intensified his expressions of fear and anxiety, as if he were torturing her, making her anguish even more unbearable. Her heart felt as though it were breaking.
“My love, I’m injured,” Lu Hang said, resorting to any means to provoke a reaction from Lin Nannan. He even guided her hand to touch the bandaged wound on his body. “I was shot three times. The doctors spent hours in surgery removing the bullets. There are countless scrapes all over me, and I lost so much blood…”
