Chapter 430
by 夏至三候Chapter 430
Grandma’s Emergency
Lu Hang’s expression darkened at his father’s words...
If it weren’t for Nan Nan’s medicine, Grandma might not have pulled through this time.
And this whole mess was likely caused by them!
“What about the people who caused this?” he asked in a low voice.
Lu Fang understood his meaning and sighed. “At that moment, your grandma was fighting for breath. Your mother and I were completely focused on her and didn’t catch those people. Besides, even if we had, it wouldn’t have mattered. They’re just thugs—they’d never admit someone was behind them.”
Lu Hang knew that, of course. He hated that he hadn’t been there when his family was in danger.
Right now, he was too far away to help!
“Dad,” he said, calming himself, “Grandma’s health is the priority. Even if she seems fine now, we can’t take any chances. Get her checked thoroughly to see if there’s anything wrong. As for your business, stop it for now. Staying in the village will be safer...”
“I know, I know. We won’t go out. After the village head found out, he was terrified too. We won’t leave unless necessary. It’s just your grandma—she keeps saying she wasted the medicine Nan Nan gave her and can't stop fretting about it!” Lu Fang sighed.
Lu Hang knew Grandma felt that the good medicine should be saved for the younger generation, not used on her, which was why she said that.
“Dad, tell Grandma that Nan Nan cares about her the most. If she knew something happened, she might rush back here even in her condition. So staying well is what matters most—tell her not to overthink it!” Lu Hang said helplessly.
“Alright, I understand.” Lu Fang was also worried about the old lady’s thoughts. After hearing his son’s words, he found them reasonable and said directly, “I’ll tell her exactly that.”
“Mm. After Grandma’s medical check-up, let me know what the doctors say. I won’t be going out on any missions recently,” he reminded.
Lu Fang hummed in agreement and asked, “How’s your wife? Your mother’s worried.”
“She’s fine—has a great appetite. Tell Mom not to worry,” Lu Hang replied.
“Ah, your mom says she tries not to worry, but with your cooking skills, she doubts you can keep your wife happy. She can’t help but worry!” Lu Fang nailed his wife’s tone, leaving Lu Hang speechless.
Compared to his wife, he was doing much better.
At least he could handle simple dishes—frying, stewing, boiling!
“It’s not just me. There’s the canteen too, and the neighbor wives in the compound also look out for her. So don’t worry. And there’s no need to send us anything from home—we’ve received a lot from the capital, including food, drinks, household supplies, and even baby clothes.”
As for whether it was for a boy or girl, in these times, getting new clothes at all was already a blessing. Who cared about the specifics?
“Baby clothes already?” Lu Fang said thoughtfully. “Your mother and aunt have been making diapers and clothes for the baby!”
“Then tell them to make some bigger ones, to allow room for growth.”
“Alright.”
After chatting for a while longer and finding nothing else to say, the father and son said goodbye and hung up.
Lu Hang didn’t hide the incident from his wife and told her directly.
“How’s Grandma now?” Lin Nannan was worried but kept calm, especially since the emergency medicine had come from her.
“She’s alright. Thanks to your medicine, she came through. I told Mom and Dad to take her for a medical check-up to see if there’s anything else wrong,” Lu Hang explained.
Lin Nannan placed a hand over her heart. “Oh thank God, as long as she’s fine—it really scared me!” she added.
Lu Hang gently stroked her back and said, "You should have confidence in your miracle cure!"
"I do, but what if I didn't have it on me?" Lin Nannan replied, then frowned as she remembered the medicine sent to the capital. "Lin Kangnian should know how precious this medicine is, right?"
"He does, and he even scolded me, worried our package might be targeted," he said, shrugging.
Glad they appreciated the medicine, Lin Nannan smiled. "Then tell him to distribute it to the family. Apart from the children, I’ve given each of them one pill—they should carry it with them at all times!"
Lu Hang grunted in acknowledgment, then gave her a puppy-dog look. "Wife, they all have one. Why don’t I?"
Lin Nannan blinked, then laughed. "You’re not on any missions right now, so I didn’t give you one!"
"I want to keep it with me too, close to my body!" Lu Hang insisted, wouldn't take no for an answer. He couldn’t shake the feeling that if the Lin family tried hard enough, they might steal his wife away.
Lin Nannan laughed softly and took out a small bottle she had prepared earlier, handing it to him. "Here. Everyone else got one or two, but you—I loaded you up with extras!"
Lu Hang took it and examined it, then asked worriedly, "This medicine is so effective—isn't this overdoing it?"
Understanding his concern, Lin Nannan said with a dismissive wave. "It’s fine. After this batch, there won’t be any more. I only have a few left, and those can’t be used lightly in the future."
She knew the dangers of tempting fate, so she didn’t tell him the full truth—only letting him believe the medicine was difficult to produce. After all, the life-saving dose had already been used to save Zhang Shengguo and was now gone.
"Don’t worry, I won’t use these unless absolutely necessary," he promised.
Lin Nannan shot him a look. "Don’t be ridiculous. The medicine is precious, but not as important as your life. Besides, these were prepared for you—since your missions are dangerous. Understand?"
Before she could stop him, Lu Hang hugged her tightly. "I understand. From now on, I’ll make sure to come back safe and sound!"
"Just remember that!"
The topic was a bit heavy, and Lin Nannan didn’t like it, so she changed the subject. "The package to the capital—should've gotten there by now, right?"
"They'll call when it shows up," Lu Hang said.
Lin Kangnian, more than anyone, understood the importance of the medicine and would be the most concerned.
Sure enough, the next day, Lin Kangnian called to say the package had arrived.
Since there was nothing urgent, Lin Nannan went with Lu Hang to take the call. Over the line, Lin Kangnian said, "If you hadn’t warned me beforehand, no one would’ve realized those medicines were more valuable than the meat you sent!"
Watching his family excitedly discussing the pile of local specialties while completely ignoring the medicine bottles, Lin Kangnian wanted to facepalm.
It wasn’t that they lacked food or supplies at home—they treasured these things simply because they came from their sister, showing she hadn't forgotten them.
As for the life-saving medicine? Might as well have sent them candy.
"Pfft!" Lin Nannan snorted beside him.
Hearing Lin Kangnian’s long-suffering voice, Lu Hang couldn’t help but chuckle. "Nan Nan said the medicine is for the whole family. Distribute it and make sure everyone carries it with them, for emergencies."
Lin Kangnian understood, but as he glanced at his oblivious family, he heaved a world-weary sigh. "I'll make them see reason."
To make them take it seriously, he’d have to remind them just how close to death he'd been—and how that little pill pulled him back from the brink!
