Chapter 9
byChapter 9
I Want to Have a Baby
"Strip!" Her deadpan tone killed any room for misunderstanding, making Lu Hang think he might be overthinking it.
"I’m already clean—just got dressed," he said. After all, it was his wedding day, so he’d been redressed from head to toe in fresh, clean clothes.
Lin Nannan leaned in to sniff. The soap smell passed inspection, so she nodded, but her hands didn’t stop moving, making Lu Hang feel like he was about to be stripped.
"I don’t need to change clothes..." he gritted out.
Lin Nannan paused, frowning slightly in confusion. "Wait, you don’t take clothes off to make a baby?"
Clueless and inexperienced, Lin Nannan had no idea how things worked. Where she came from, natural pregnancies were almost unheard of, even with high-tech help, birth rates remained critically low. That’s why they were so desperate for real, untainted food—it was their only hope to boost fertility rates and save humanity from extinction.
Back when she’d agreed to marry Lu Hang, she hadn’t given having kids a second thought—not with him paralyzed. But after seeing him, she figured a kid like him seemed like a good idea. So here she was now.
But clueless as she was, with no experience or even observation to guide her, Lu Hang’s reluctance left her troubled, wondering if she was doing something wrong.
"H-Have a baby?" Lu Hang, who had stayed calm even when gravely injured, now found himself stammering in shock.
"Of course. We’re married—isn’t it normal to have a baby?" She sounded matter-of-fact, but in reality, she was winging it with scraps of village gossip overheard by the original host. To Lin Nannan, this translated into a shaky understanding at best.
Lu Hang wished he could facepalm, but he couldn’t move. Suppressing the heat creeping through him, he clenched his teeth. "Nan Nan, wait—I need to talk to you first..."
His wife was a force of nature!
"We can talk later..." Convinced she was following the right steps, Lin Nannan leaned in closer. Her hand ventured lower—Lu Hang froze.
"Nan Nan, stop! If you keep going, I’ll call for help!" Panic made his words slip out before he could think, and he immediately regretted it.
Lin Nannan blinked. "Shouldn’t *I* be the one saying that?"
Lu Hang didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He sucked in air while she hesitated, then pleaded, "Just listen to me first, okay?"
Her hand stayed put, stubborn. After a conflicted pause, she relented. "Fine, talk."
Yet her fingers showed no intention of moving away.
Forcing himself to stay calm—having never been this close to a woman before—Lu Hang’s skin crawled. Finally, he ground out, "At least gimme the blanket first... I’m cold."
With that request, what else could Lin Nannan do but comply?
She flopped back, sulking. "Hurry up and talk!"
Taking a deep breath, Lu Hang said, "You weren’t even part of the original deal. I’m stuck like this forever. I don’t want to burden you..."
"Are you asking for a divorce?" Nan Nan bolted upright in the dark, glaring at him.
If they divorced, how would she farm without him?
Her voice turned steely. "Over my dead body!"
Without her consent, Lu Hang was powerless—she held all the cards. Nobody was gonna make her.
