    Chapter 191

    She's Something Else

It wasn't that she was being petty—she'd just read in the records that after the special period ended, Tengfei’s boom had boosted everything forward. So she figured she might as well cash in on the growth.

The reason she hadn’t left the village yet was because she had her reasons to stay—but who knew about later?

Once her mission was fully complete, she could go anywhere, maybe even expand her opportunities…

Mr. Hu shot back, “Wasn’t that supposed to be arranged by the brass?”

Lin Nan Nan understood all too well. This outcome was exactly what Xue He had guessed—it was so ridiculous she nearly laughed.

“No one arranged a damn thing for me. You’ve got some gall!” she snapped, exasperated.

    Hu Yunlai was completely floored.

He hadn’t expected Lin Nan Nan—who had contributed grain—to get absolutely nothing in return. That was total bullshit.

“I’ll ask. I’m going to call right now!” he said, thinking this whole thing was nuts and bolting off urgently to make the call.

“Mr. Hu, slow down!” Lu Yuan called out worriedly, seeing how worked up he was.

Hu Yunlai waved her off without a word, his sprightly moves making it hard to believe he was of such an age.

“Nan Nan,” Lu Yuan, realizing she couldn’t stop Mr. Hu, gave up and turned to Lin Nan Nan. “Will they really give you a salary?”

Lin Nan Nan thought for a moment and said, “They should give me three salaries!”

Lu Yuan fell silent. She couldn’t even wrap her head around that.

But the more Lin Nan Nan thought about it, the more she felt screwed over. She told Lu Yuan, “I’ll head back first. If Mr. Hu has any news, come tell me.”

    Lu Yuan nodded.

Her sister-in-law’s expression was downright scary—if she didn’t agree, she was afraid Nan Nan might slam the door in her face.

Lin Nan Nan hurried home and ran into Lu Hang at the doorstep. She vented everything to him, then said firmly, “Is it wrong for me to demand three salaries?”

Lu Hang gave a low chuckle, finding the situation absurd, and backed her up: “Damn right you deserve three. I doubt any of them would refuse!”

There was no way he’d let his wife get taken advantage of—especially considering everything else she’d done.

With Lu Hang backing her up, Lin Nan Nan spoke confidently when discussing it with Xue He, leaving him completely stumped for a rebuttal.

Technically, she wasn’t wrong—but figuring out how to pay those salaries was another whole can of worms.

Zhang Shengguo only caught wind of the matter after finishing his day’s work, when he happened to overhear Lu Yuan and Lin Nan Nan talking. Confused, he quietly asked Lu Hang and finally realized what a clusterfuck had occurred.

“So, apart from the initial payment and supplies, she hasn’t seen a single cent since?” Zhang Shengguo asked, surprised.

Lu Hang nodded, amused. “We all forgot. Even Nan Nan didn’t remember until Xue He took an interest in the blueprint she drew. That’s when she suddenly realized—I have a salary, but she doesn’t. So she went around asking and found out she really hadn’t been paid at all.”

Zhang Shengguo grimaced and asked, “So what’s the plan now?”

“She wants three salaries. I don’t see any problem with that—she’s contributing to three different fields,” Lu Hang said firmly.

After a long silence, Zhang Shengguo finally muttered, “She’s a real powerhouse.”

One person getting three salaries was unheard of.

As Lu Hang had said, Lin Nan Nan’s contributions couldn’t be measured by a regular salary. So approving three salaries was easy. More importantly, there were also rewards involved—any success from her research meant substantial bonuses. And that left Lin Nan Nan pretty damn pleased.
